Good efforts over the weekend. There were two crucial mistakes by the Flyers Sunday in New York. Briere got caught on the ice and could not make the long change. He was tired and took a dumb penalty. Coburn made the mistake by thinking about himself over the team and going for retaliation and he got caught.
Random thoughts....
Claude Giroux is a special playmaker with the puck. He needs a sniper to partner with. See my proposed line combinations for the playoffs.
Carcillo is a quality 3rd line agitator (which was what Upshall was) but at a much better price.
I would have started Biron again today to attempt to bury the Rangers. I would have started Nitty against Detroit Tuesday night.
Daniel Briere looks out of shape and slow on the ice. He needs to be fast to be effective. He needs a few weeks to get into game shape. Be patient with him, he hasn't really played meaningful hockey since last Spring.
I am impressed with Asham lately. With the lineup shown below, the Flyers can roll 4 lines every game and can compete with anyone.
Here are the lines that I would like to see:
Gagne Richards Knuble
Carcillo Carter Hartnell
Lupul Giroux Briere
Ross Powe Asham
My reasons are that Giroux needs a shooter and that is Lupul. Lupul is filling a nice roll with Carter but is not getting to shoot enough.
The shooters on the forward lines are Gagne, Carter and Lupul. These guys are most effective when they shoot constantly. The only line that doesn't have a physical presence is the Giroux line.
The biggest plus to this lineup is that Cote is not dressed. He is an awful hockey player. He cannot skate, shoot, pass or even fight. He gets his butt kicked by every other tough guy in the league.
Would love to see comments on this lineup.
