Gameday: Northwest Division leaders, Colorado Avalanche

Well, after yet another long break, the Flames are finally back in action tonight against probably the biggest suprise team of the season to date. The Colorado Avalanch are in town, bringing with them a plethora of young talent and the hottest goalie in the league. With a 9-1-2 record the Avs sit atop the NW division, five points up on the Flames, however the Flames have two games in hand. Knowing the Avs played just last night in Edmonton is a plus, as the Flames have been idle since Saturday and have only played once in the last week. For the Flames it has been scoring by committee this season, with goals coming in bunches and from everywhere. Rene Bourque and Dion Phaneuf kead the way with five, while Conroy remains the only forward without a tally thus far. Speaking of Bourque, the teams points leader is an unrestricted free agent at seasons end, and numbers are starting to come up. What is he worth? At just below 2 million right now, he serves as one of the leagues best bargains, and you better believe Darryl knows this and will get on top of it. My bet is Rene will remain with the Flames for the forseable future. He is just too good all around and fits the system perfectly. In additon, he won't forget what Darryl did for him last year, plucking him off an uninterested Blackhawks team already loaded with talent.
Dustin Boyd is out tonight with the flew, as everyone is taking precautions with the H1N1 virus floating around. David Moss returns, and his prescense will elevate the Flames league best powerplay and will help wreak havov in front of Colorado goaltender and season MVP to date , Craig Anderson. On the Colorado front, watch out for the young talent on this team. Third overall pick Matt Duschene is a treat to watch, as his Paul Stasny and his 12 p[oints in 12 games.
A well rested and eager Calgary club should prevail tonight and trim the Avs hold on the first place. A goaltenders dual: 3-1 Flames.
