The NHL rejected Kovalchuk's deal. I saw this coming, especially after they looked deep into the Hossa and Pronger deals last year.
This pleases me mainly because it means there is a chance he doesn't play in our division next season.
Kovalchuk-less Devils aside, this is a flaw in the NHL's salary cap system.. front loaded contracts can disperse salary in such unwavering gaps (Pronger making 6 million now, 500k in a few years; same with Hossa) that it brings down the average cap hit. Good idea in theory, but easy to take advantage of.
Quick shout out to my collaborator. He scored a sick goal in NHL 09 (idk why he doesn't have 10) that i wish i was there to have seen. Just to elaborate, he called to tell me about it.. in great detail. That's how serious this is.
