Bruins Summer 07

Posted 2:45 PM ET | Comments 0
OK, It is not big secret that the 06-07 Boston Bruins were an utter embarrasement and huge disappointment to their fans. What to do about it so the same does not happen in the upcoming season.

The first thing I think they need to do is look at the assets, and break them down into 2 categories, veterans and prospects. Veterans are Glen Murray 4.15 M, Marc Savarad 5M, Patrice Bergeron 5M, Marco Sturm 3.5, PJ Axelson 1.85 and Zdeno Chara 7.5 and we will add Phil Kessel to this even thouh technically not a vet 850K, all these salares combined equal roughly 28 M out of a possible 48M cap.

Prospects

Matt Lashoff, Mark Stuart, Jonathan Siglet from D man in Providence that could make this team next season. Finnish goalie Tuukka Rask. Also still in the WHL their is Wacey Rabbit, and Milan Lucic, both of whom play for the Vancouver Giants of the WHL. If you have a chance I suggest listening on line to a Giants game http://www.vancouvergiants.com/home.html click on the listen live AM 730. Try to ignore the travel updates they do after every whistle. They are in the WHL playoffs right now, and they are also host team of the 2007 Memorial Cup.

Now is the tough part lets see who is expendable on this list and lets take a look at the UFA's available on July 1st. We need offense and wings we dont not need centers. Ryan Smyth, Paul Kariya, Jason Blake, Scott Hartnell, and Ray Whitney are 5 UFA's that I think the Bruins should look into trying to get 2 of these players. Ryan Smyth is going to cost 6M so he may not be the way to go. Kariya would be a nice fit depending on cost. This leaving the Blake, Hartnell and Whitney, all of which you may be able to get at a reasonable salary. Expandable players, lets try and get Glen Murray's salary off our books and try and get a cheaper version of him, same with Alberts even though his salary is low, you may need to throw him in with Murray.

And last the draft, June 22nd and 23. Boston is picking 8th overall and there are some pretty talented players that will be there for them keep in mind a couple of years away. Players who will be around at 8 are in no particular order are Defenseman Kyle Alverz, Keaton Ellerby, John Blum all of the WHL. Forwards Sam Gagner, and Logan Couture of the OHL and forward Brandon Sutter of the WHL. Brandon of the son of Brett of the famed Sutter family. Any of these 6 would be a great addition to the Black n Gold in the years to come. Then again we can always try and offer Murray and the # 8 to Chicago for the # 1 overall and take Patrick Kane. Just think Phil Kessel at center with Peter Kalus on his left and Patrick Kane on his right. The special K line, that we be great.

Again this is just one fans opinion for the future of the Boston Bruins
