Are the Capitals done signing free agents or trading to get help with their current roster?

I believe M. McPhee is done with the big stuff and will only round-up his lineup for opening night.

Here's a look at our lineup:

Goalies
Olaf Kolzig
Brent Johnson
Frederic Cassivi

We can assume there will be no change in net as Kolzig is still our #1 and no prospect are knocking at the NHL door.

D-men
Tom Poti
Brian Pothier
Steve Eminger
Jeff Schultz
Milan Jurcina
John Erskine
Shaone Morrisonn
Mike Green
Ben Clymer

Big signing on defence with Poti who is locked for 4 years/$14M. Poti will be a big improvement on the PP over Pothier who is more of a second unit quarterback.

I see McPhee signing a depth defenseman to help our young players like Jurcina, Eminger and Schultz develop.

Centers
Michael Nylander
Viktor Kozlov
Kris Beech
Boyd Gordon
Jakub Klepis
Nicklas Backstrom

With the signings of Nylander and Kozlov the Caps finally have depth at center, and with Backstrom likely graduating this year, I believe we are set at center.

Wingers
Alexander Ovechkin
Alexander Semin
Chris Clark
Brooks Laich
Matt Bradley
Donald Brashear
Brian Sutherby
Matt Pettinger
Eric Fehr
Tomas Fleischmann

No signings here, but youngsters like Fehr and Fleischmann should make the team come spring training. McPhee might want to add an experience winger to play on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Milan Jurcina and Brooks Laich filed for arbitration today.

Projected lines:

Ovechkin-Nylander-Clark
Semin-Backstrom-Kozlov
Pettinger-Gordon-Laich
Brashear-Klepis-Bradley

Spares:
Fehr, Clymer, Flesichmann, Sutherby

Poti-Eminger
Pothier-Jurcina
Schultz-Morrisonn

Spares:
Erskine, Green

What do you think??

Well that looks ugly. Let me try again:

Here's my projection at this point:

Ovechkin - Nylander - Kozlov
Semin - Backstrom - Clark
Pettinger - Gordon - Clymer
Brashear - Sutherby - Bradley

Poti - Jurcina
Pothier - Morrisonn
Eminger - Schultz

Kolzig
Johnson

Spares: Erskine, Fleischmann, Laich
In Hershey: Green, Schultz, Fehr, Klepis, Steckel

A lot will depend on what happens during training camp when it comes to the depth players/spares/etc.

I really like what Washington has done. Watching games with Semin and Ovechkin was entertaining, I can't wait to see what they can do with Nylander, Kozlov and Backstrom in the mix. Caps fans have to be excited. And they have new uniforms, so there you go.

Regardless of the lines, I know that I actually have expectations for the team this year to at least fight for a playoff spot. Other teams in the Southeast haven't made any real significant signings (except for Vokoun) in the offseason, so I am predicting that the Caps will have a much better record within their division. Other Eastern Conf. teams have not done much upgrading, including the NYI, Buffalo, NJ, and Boston - so I am hopeful that we can get a few more wins against these teams as well.
