Here are some of my thoughts on who the Red Wings should/could acquire to improve their chances for a long playoff run.

Mark Recchi Ten points in ten games in Atlanta, he's found new life and would fit good on a second line wing.

Glen Murray Power forward with some gas left in the tank, would fit good on a line with Zetterberg, probably available if the Bruins continue to struggle, I think he's injured right now, but should be healthy by the deadline.

Sergi Federov Hasn't been the same since he left Detroit, but still has the skills to play some powerplay and is a solid 53% in the faceoff dot.

Adam Foote Not sure if the Jackets would trade him, but he's still a solid defenseman who can provide the physical play lacking on Detroit's blue line.

Sean Hill Gritty Defenseman who hits and blocks shots, would improve the 2nd penalty kill unit behind Chelios and Lidstrom.

Patrik Elias Seems to have fallen out of favor a bit in New Jersey, losing his role of captain, and is having a terrible shooting year at 6.7%, but if he was paired with Datsyuk he could recapture his former magic.

Dainius Zubrus Had a good year in Washington with Ovechkin, and is having another solid year in New Jersey, but along with Elias, I'm not sure that they'd part with him.

Brendan Witt Same type of player as Sean Hill, would fit the penalty killing, and physical defenseman role very well. A replacement for Danny Markov.

Jonathan Cheechoo Having a terrible season by his standards, seems to have lost his confidence, but when paired with Thorton he put up very solid numbers, and with Zetterberg or Datsyuk he could re-capture his goal scoring touch.

Mats Sundin Having a great season despite his team's struggles, if they're out of it early he could become available.

Any thoughts, comments, or other ideas are appreciated.

The only way you get Witt from the Islanders is if you pry him from our cold dead hands.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it:41 games = 63 points, which is a club record. In the top 5 in in pp and pk. All four lines contributing - big time. Leading the league with most players with 10 or more goals. Can't say enough about the Wizard of Oz. And go look at the complete /- stats. Of course, as a fellow Wings fan I know I'm preaching to the choir.I repeat - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
