Habs fans need to stop

Posted 8:02 PM ET | Comments 14
I was looking at the All-Star game voting and have decided that Habs fans need to stop breaking the vote... I know you guys (and gals) are showing your team spirit, but you are ruining any enjoyment other fans can get from watching the All-Star game... the All-Star team carries 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 3 goalies... that means 21 players... having six guys from the Canadiens means there are only 16 spots for guys from the other 15 teams... not cool when fans deserve to see Crosby AND Malkin in the game... or Ovechkin AND Semin or Green... you know? The Wings fans are almost as guilty, but their forwards (Hossa, Datysuk, Zetterberg) up for vote are all deserving as they all have a point-per-game. By voting for four undeserving players, Habs fans are doing the same damned thing that those idiots did by voting for Rory Fitzpatrick... I know it was a statement about how dumb fan voting is... and for the first time I tend to agree...

Koivu has 18 in 21, Tanguay has 17 in 21, and Kovalev has 16 in 21, Komisarek is injured and unless he comes back before January to play six games, won't be eligible. To put things in context for you: the Leafs Matt Stajan has 20 pts in 20 games and Nik Antropov has 16pts in 21 games... these two players are as equally deserving if not more so than the three that are now leading the pack significantly... but lets compare votes Koivu: 349748, Stajan: 1004, okay... Kovalev: 352761, Antropov: 2223... seems about right, right? Koivu is tied for 47th in scoring with... Rob Blake... starter in all-star game?

I'm not saying that the Habs are bad or that they don't have deserving players (Price and Markov deserve to start!!)... I'm just saying that there are guys who are being neglected (How does Shea Weber have only 61589 votes??) that are infinitely more deserving... Alex Semin led the league in points until he got injured and the way its looking now he'll need to be cut to make room for a Hab forward with mediocre point totals... I could start a petition to have Jeff Finger voted to the All-Star team... after all he has more points and a comparable plus/minus to Komisarek in the same number of games, but I won't... because its dumb and there are players who are much more deserving... so seriously... cut it out... vote for some players whose performances really warrant inclusion in the All-Star game...

Here's a list of people (IMO) whose performance really warrants inclusion as a starter:
Malkin: 21Gp, 35Pts (self-explanatory)
Savard 21Gp, 28Pts (quietly puts up huge totals, year after year, never gets respect)
Gagne: 20Gp, 30Pts (tell me he doesn't deserve it after coming back)
Semin: 16Gp, 27Pts (has the highest per game total (of top 50 scorers)
Weight: 22Gp, 22Pts (ON THE ISLANDERS!! On the ISLANDERS!!)
Parise: 21Gp, 25Pts (Pretty big reason NJ hasn't collapsed after Brodeur's injury)

ps:Halak has 3122 votes and George Laraque has 1421... Both write-ins have more than fellow write-in Matt Stajan... Cut it out.

It's for the fans, there are more casual fans voting in Montreal this year for obvious reasons, and they are voting for the players the reconize and cheer for. It's no diffrent the n the casual female fan voting for the hottest players, or the fan who hasn't even followed much hockey, voting for a player that is injured or retired just because they reconize the name. It is no diffrent then this http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=39103361532It just happens there is more casual hab fans stuffing the box, Big deal. It is for the fans and that is what the casual hab fan in Montreal wants to see.Does it mean Kovalev is better then Malkin or Crosby or OV or Semen, Hell Noes. Does it mean any of those players are less of a superstar because they didn't start the Meaninigless All-star game? Hell NOES.Do you really need to be told who the superstars of the league are by who gets voted into the All-star game?

Also IF the NHL really cared about putting the top 20 players on the Ice for the All-star team they wouldn't let the fan's pick any of them, and the would have a panel to pick the teams. Also they would try and pick the Best "team" not the top 20 point producers. And the game would also mean something for the winner, but it isn't. So keep crying that Mr Stajan can't get more votes then BGL.

Totally agree. This is dumb. Here's another name for your otherwise accurate list: Tim Thomas

Oilhab: nice little spin -- it's all these "casual" Habs' fans doing it. Of course the fans have every right to vote. And if this were being done to show the idiocy of the system, I would support it (as Rory's was). But this is being done to put less than all-star calibre Habs players into the starting lineup -- and as such it's nothing more than a mockery of the game and the players who actually deserve to be there. It also shows clearly that Montreal fans are among the most classless and tackiest in hockey. It does nothing good for any aspect of the Montreal Canadiens. The all-star game IS for the best...if not it should be called 'The Most Popular Players Game'! No matter how you spin it, rationalize it, or defend it, it puts a blight on the game. Way to go habs' fans! Classy all the way!!!!!

I'm willing to go one better for the Habs. Let's go back to the old days, when it was one team versus NHL All-Stars. Let's have the entire Habs team versus everybody else in the league. Yes, it's gimmicky, but the All-Star game is useless.

This is why the All Star Game is not watched and the ratings are so poor. It's a waste of time. With the voting, it shows how much it's a waste of time. Yes, I would say the same thing if this was happening to my fav team.

It is a pointless game, but my frustration comes from that the fans in non-traditional markets are the ones getting the shaft... yes, Nashville and Atlanta are terrible places to have hockey teams, but there are fans, and from what Ive witnessed they get more hardcore because there are fewer of them than many of the fans in 'traditional' markets... When the game needs exposure in all of its markets to have only players from Montreal, Toronto, or New York start in a game that attracts few die-hards but more than a few people who may be curious or casual it is counterproductive for the growth of fanbase the game.

I didn't look at goaltenders because Price has performed well and has very tight stats... same for defence... Markov has been arguably the best Eastern Conference defenceman... my issue was primarily with Kovalev who looks like a shadow of last year.

I'm starting a write in campaign for Bates Battaglia

Well, if it is all Habs then at least we know that the western conference will win.

I love watching the all-star game.. I could care less who the starters are the lines will be broken up after the first shift anyway.
