Hello there folk been a while since I wrote a blog and on a rainy Sunday seems like a great idea to me.rnrnI've read countless articles suggesting the Edmonton Oilers trade for the 1st overall pick to get Ekblad. Personally unless the trade is extremely one sided in favor of the Oilers (which it will never be) trading for 1st overall is a waste of resources as well as a step back in the franchise. For those of you who think that adding Ekblad via trading for 1st overall have yet to think about what it will take realistically. Would giving up easily Yakupov + really be worth Ekblad, No! plain and simple. Yes Yakupov had a bad year but is 1 year worth or bad hockey where he was under used and put on a line with talents that did no complement his own. We all seem to have forgotten he did lead the rookie scoring the year before.rnrnEkblad is NOT the next Shea Weber, not even close. No scout or reputable TV personality had said he is the next Weber. If he is available at 3 then pick him if not any of the Centres in the top 5 will greatly benefit us making Gagner available. The reasonable thing to do is package Gagner to bring in help on the D. Try for example Gagner, next years 1st and 3rd and a conditional 1st if the Oilers make the Conference finals for any of Del Zotto, Letang, or Phaneuf. Of course that is a dream trade but does seem realistic to me. Hell throw in the next years 1st might be able to get Marc Staal. (I only say that is being a Thunder Bay native must root for the many hometown boys in the NHL (ALOT))rnrnNow there are some great pending UFA's and RFA's available for the Oilers to take a stab at. Andrej Meszaros from Boston, Kyle Quincey from Detroit or attempt an offer sheet to Ryan Ellis a very high Offer sheet 7 years 7.5 per. Though Ellis is a stretch the Oilers may be able to trade for his rights if the deal is right.rnrnAs a fan id love to see an the mentioned moves happen though mind you they probably wont. Realistically the Oilers will add more pieces at the draft a few bottom 6 D men and hope for 1st over all. This off season is major for the Oilers with there "stars" getting in there prime I wouldn't be surprised if after another losing season one of the Big 3 or Yakupov asks to be traded. rnrnI hope you enjoyed my blog and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.rnsigning off An Oilers Fan who Doesn't Shoot for the stars or Moon, just a winning hockey team.

The first bit about not trading down was okay...but the prices this guy is willing to pay for Del Zotto? Jesus...Nashville gets him for Kevin Klein and we want to spend Gagner, 2 firsts and a 3rd? And how the fuck do we throw in another 2014 1st for Mark Staal? Where he really goes full retard is the 7X7.5 Million offer sheet for Ryan Ellis? thats 2 firsts, a 2nd and a 3rd for fucks sake. For Ryan freaking Ellis? God grant me the strength
