What do we all think about these Sabres?

The game as a general manager is complicated for sure. We can all bag on Darcy all we want, but hopefully we can be entertained by the next couple of months. We have a situation though, and hopefully it can be resolved by March 4th.
Max and Kotalik both need to be gone. We have to get something in return. I feel that draft picks can suffice. If we can get a top four defenseman or a 1st or second line center in return, that would be fine too. What i am thinking is trading Al for picks and peddling those with Max and a prospect for the player that we need.
My suggestions? We need a player that will boost our Power Play. Schneider, Aucoin or Kaberle would be the top four dmen I would prefer, since they would all add veteran leadership and offensive experience. Mathieu and Adrian would be the rentals, with Thomas having two years left on his deal. Cammaleri, McDonald, or Comrie would be the centers we should be looking at. These players would be adding a playmaker to assist vanek in reaching 60 this year in addition to being renta players.

So, as I was saying...I think these Sabres can make the playoffs, that is what I think. BUT, they need to get more offensive on the backend or put some top notch talent with our top notch player. So, Darcy...Be a little more like mike...Just Do it.

Buffman, signing off...

What would a Sabres fan want for Kaberle. I'm thinking Enroth and a 1st...

Enroth? So you Leaf fans have heard of him huh?
January 20, 2009 11:07 PM ET | Delete
Enroth is a potential franchise goalie, trading him to a division rival would be a tough call.

lol yea I've heard of him. It's just Myers has made huge strides in his game since being draft and IMO he's definitely a keeper, and I don't see them moving him, but I think you guys can afford to move Enroth..

Typically I'd ask for Myers(to have Schenn and Myers, yikes!) but yea...

We probably could afford to move Enroth, but to Toronto where he could haunt us for 15 years? Risky.

Enroth is not a franchise goalie in my opinion. The Sabres have already invested a large chunk of change and time into Ryan Miller. Also, Kotalik, though he plays poorly, is money in the shootout. WGR was talking about how he's personally responsible for gaining the "bonus" point in the shootout 10 times in his career. That's the most in the NHL.

Oh, and also, it's MEYERS, not Myers. He is a talent that shouldn't be let go.

Enroth may not be our franchise goalie, but he's one of the best young goalies in hockey. It's MYERS, pal get your facts straight.http://nhlentrydraft2008.com/featuredPlayersDetails.aspx?type=np

well whatever, the point is to get enroth in here so Pogge can have some healthy competition, one will emerge as our "franchise goalie" the other could be traded, or could end up being a bust.

So... in recap... Enroth is undersized but extremely talented. He's a risk as a "future franchise goalie." Cammelleri isn't about to be moved out of Calgary, Kaberle is good value coming back and makes Spacek expendable, and I don't think we need to move Kotalik, nor do we need to resign him.

If we trade for Kaberle we would probably have to trade some salary away too so Enroth and a pick would have to include some dead weight. p.s. we have plenty of dead weight.
January 21, 2009 3:04 PM ET | Delete
we could take deadweight, but we would have to get back another pick to take on some dead weight(plus we are trading an allstar to a division rival).

I feel that if we can get a good pick for Kotalik we should take it, or if he needs to be a throw in on a deal. We don't need him and he rarely shows up nowadays.

While I recognize and respect Kotalik's shootout skills I don't think I will miss him. I say hang onto him for a playoff run and just let him walk at seasons end unless he is willing to play for a reasonable price. The guy is too inconsistent and often times goes unnoticed until the shootout comes around.

Dude seriously? Are we trying to tank the season with these ideas? We cannot trade Ales Kotalik until we have no chance of making the playoffs. With the exception of the Red Wings, the Sabres have been able to stay with every team that they've played this season. If you add a puck moving D-man into the mix, I think that they are a top four team in the conference, so, you don't sell regular players unless they offer nothing to your team, cough, Max. If Toronto wants roster players for Kaberle, then he's too expensive. I don't think that he's the right fit anyway since I don't think that they would want his salary for the next two seasons. Schneider would make more sense and would be more affordable. Oh, and Tyler Myers should not be traded. Neither, I think, should Enroth, although I could at least swallow that one.

trading kotalik would be a horriable move... hes one of the best players EVER in the shootout... how many times has buffalo won a game on his stick in the shoot out... him and stafford make a great 1 2 punch at the shoot out. Last time i checked we need all the points we can get...
January 21, 2009 5:27 PM ET | Delete
truthbluth - not roster players Enroth, and we didn't ask for Myers.
January 21, 2009 5:50 PM ET | Delete
How are you guys defending Kotalik? Can he score his shootout goals in teh playoffs? No. I feel he is wayyyy to inconsistant to play here and if we can get picks for him that are decent, take it. We have too many roster players anyway, I think we can afford to get rid of two.
January 21, 2009 7:21 PM ET | Delete
I agree Max needs to go somewhere else, but who would want him. I don't think that even the Islanders are that desperate. If we could get a quality player for Kotlalik, I'd say go for it. It's too bad he can't score in regulation time or overtime the way he scores in shootouts. In football, he'd be on Special Teams. Hockey doesn't offer that option an no team can keep a player who can only do one thing.

geolover...that would be ideal, but the truth to the matter is that he doesn't play well at all five on five. we are a horrible team five on five as well. It might be easy to get rid of him and add a plyer that would boost our five on five productivity.
