I realize Edmonton gets cold in winter, but I didn't think hell just froze over.

Mike Comrie today signed a one-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers. How cool is that? I actually am pleased with the move. Yes, I hear you doubters saying, "another small centre?" Yep. And he's also another small centre that scored 30 goals one season in Edmonton. He improves the team. But what does it mean? Does this mean another move is about to happen? Perhaps.

Rumor has been that one of Dany Heatley's reluctancies (is that a word) in coming to Edmonton was that he wanted a center to play with. Three names were mentioned: Mats Sundin, Phil Kessel, and none other than Mike Comrie.

I hate to speculate on a subject that has been beat to death, but here goes: Heater doesn't want to return to Ottawa, and Ottawa doesn't want him either. A deadline of Friday has been set to move Heatley, or he will be expected to play for the Senators this year. Edmonton and Ottawa had a deal in place to move Heatley for Cogliano, Penner and Smid, and it still is the best deal that has been offered. No other team is in a position to add Heatley, and Comrie's addition to Edmonton, considering their cap situation, is nearly impossible to rationalize.

Could it be the Heatley camp has contacted the Oilers and the Sens, and indicated a willingness to go if Mike Comrie became an Oiler? Will Oiler fans have the chance to boo not just Comrie, but Heatley as well this year? Heck, just add Chris Pronger in a deal, and there will be riots in the streets of Edmonton.

Comrie in Edmonton...is more to come? Stay tuned.

Only issue with the trade is we don't have the cap space to do it now. Comrie is going to live us with very little and if we do the trade we gain 900k of salary and we would mostly likely need to add Peckham (600K) to our roster. Maybe Nilsson goes the other way now or someone else?

Heatley will come to Edmonton now that Comrie is there? That's just freakin' bizarre, true or not.

I don't get this signing. I know the oilers need some scoring but what they really need is a third line centre. Why couldn't of this contract have gone to blair betts or manny malhorltra. Don't understand it, this obviously means the end to nilsson which is a big mistake.
