The2ManAdvantage and Shawn Arseneault are on the scene, reporting back on day one:

The2ManAdvantage's eyewitness report

Training camp is a bit different this year. Instead of scrimmages, Scott Gordon is running practices. The drills are focused on speed, driving to the net, quick passing, and transitions. Gordon is fiery. Its great to watch and his energy definitely leads to the drills being done intensely. Since its practice its tough to pick out new guys because there are no names on the back of jerseys.

Some line combinations so far: Guerin-Weight-Okposo/Sim. Kyle told me that tomorrow something will be changed to even the lines. Sim looked great, showing no effects of missing a year.

Tambellini-Nielsen-Hunter. Tambellini was sniping high glove a lot and changed his stick for more effective toe drags. He said that Hunter looked leaner.

Bailey-comrie-Comeau. Blake has a new haircut and showed his sneaky-size when protecting the puck and going to net.

Hilbert-Park-Bergenheim. Park hasn't lost a step and might have even gained one. He was blowing by everyone on the one-on-one drills.

As far as d goes, the were doing a lot drills on transition and then jumping in the play.

Freddy Meyer stood out on both ends. He sniped some wristers and broke up some 3-on-2 nicely, knocking saucer passes out of mid-air.

I'm figuring put names and faces, so tomorrow I should be able to give a better report on new guys.

Shawn Arseneault is also on the scene:

I have to say the guys look good. I took a few pictures and had a chance to talk to Mike Comrie also. I'll send you some info later once I upload my pics on the pc. Kyle Okposo really impressed me, he has phenomenal puck handling skills. Doug Weight and Bill Guerin where really having fun just like the old days. I had a chance to see Mark Streit play in Montreal a lot and today he seemed like a star, a guy that doens't have to fight for a job. I think he will fit tremendously in NY. His skating was great and he really seemed to fit in good.

Here are pics from Shawn on Day One.

Stay tuned for more from Shawn, plus others on-hand reports, including The2ManAdvantage this weekend and during the week.

Yesterday, Shawn Arseneault emailed me some pics to followup on his great report. Here they are:
