Well it looks like the NHL is at it again. Frame work for the new Kovalchuck contract was rejected. It looks like that any contract over 10 years will be a no go in the NHL now. Details of the new contract haven't been released yet.
And really this isn't about the Devils and Kovalchuck anymore...I quote dchesnokov via twitter "My personal opinion is that Bloch's ruling created more uncertainties the NHL takes advantage of. This is just wrong."
Update: 8:29AM
Talk is that the deal was 15 years and the NHL will not approve anything over 13 years...Still trying to confirm.
how can they do that again if the contract isnt frontloaded i dont see a reason why the years matters
Thats what were waiting for...no details have been released...From the looks of it the NHL dosen't want Kovi in new jersey...
The NHL won't approve anything under 13 years? Do you mean over?
Yes over 13 sorry...will fix
Don't be sorry, I was just confused. It doesn't take much for us Leafs Fans :)
LOL...
Come on, NHL wont approve anything over 40 years old
And u can bet there is front loading in the new contract. So quit the conspiracy crap.
They should have a clause in the CBA that says that a players salary can only increase or decrease by a 10 percent. This means that if a guy makes $10M one season the lowest his contract can step down or up is $1M. The next year it could only change by $900k if it were on a decline or $1.1M on the rise. Wow using MATH makes this entire situation easier!!
Yes, without knowing the details of this 2nd contract, it's tough to comment on why it was rejected. But don't start any "NHL doesn't like NJ" nonsense. This is all about preventing future contracts of ridiculous length and/or front-loading.
so retarded it just doesn't make any sense. the NHL is a joke
