Today, Jay Feaster announced the signing of the 26 year old Czech centre Roman Cervenka to a a 1-year contract worth US$3,775,000 including bonuses. The deal had been in place since Thursday, however Cervenka's contract ended on Monday.
Roman Cervenka recently led his team in points, registering 11 goals and 11 assist in 20 KHL playoff games. He is described as having "Good hands, and good vision".
Calgary historically, has not been a team to gamble on players. They play it rather conservative, and because of such - have not landed many big free agents, or skilled players.
This is a bold move, that is a win - win situation. Calgary gave up no assets, aside from money. It's a risk worth taking, since his production has been quite good for KHL standards. It must also be noted, however, that his best season was along side fellow countrymen Jaromir Jagr. His production dropped to .72 pts per game without Jagr.
After watching some video, I've noticed that his skating needs work. Not a weak skater by far, however it is not his strongest attribute. Roman will likely fit into the #2 centre spot in the Flames' top 6.
In addition, some rumours have been surfacing that Olli Jokinen will not be resigned. I find that unlikely. Olli Jokinen has developed into a good two-way forward this season. He adapted, and had a good season. If he takes a pay cut, I see Jokinen signing a 1 - 2 year deal.

Other Notes
- Rumours around the team believe that Troy Ward is indeed the top candidate for the coaching job.
- Abbotsford Heat beat the Toronto Marlies 3 -1 the other day, grabbing a 1 - 0 series lead. The Heat were led by Max Reihnart who had 1 goal, and an assist.
- The WHL Championship round begins soon, with 3 Flames' prospects taking centre stage : Laurent Brossoit, Sven Baertschi and Ty Wotherspoon.

Nice to see a Flame Blog. thx. Joker probably wants a raise, hope we dont give him more $$$. How old is this kid we signed? is he worth that much $$$?
I don't like giving a guy with no NHL experience this caphit. He better not be Joker's replacement. I'm still holding out that we keep him.
