I know I promised (on Facebook) that I wouldn't make any Monster jokes, but I couldn't help myself. Wings have inked former Toronto backstop Jonas Gustavsson to a 2 year deal. Gustavsson went 39-45-15 in 107 appearances with the Maple Leafs over the past three seasons with a 298 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. To be honest, I’m not terribly excited about this move. He had some highlight reel saves, but overall his numbers weren’t that great. Think this should’ve been a two-way contract. With the Wings’ trainers, he could end up providing a reliable backup for Jimmy Howard. Or he could lose the number two spot to Joey MacDonald, who had a strong showing during the 2011-2012 season. It will be interesting to see how this plays out through camp/preseason.
