As most of you already know, the NHL is setting New Years day as the day for an outdoor game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres.
In a league that struggles for tv ratings (although I will admit, beating out the NBA last season was prime) what better way to help these ratings then by putting a game you dub the Ice Bowl on tv the same day colleges around the country play their bowl games?
Couldn't the NHL at least consider this when they set a date?
I'm waiting for the article on January 2nd 2008 whose headline reads, "NHL Ice Bowl draws worse ratings then clam diving."
