One of the only series predicted not to be very close is between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers come into this matchup as the Presidents’ Trophy winners (113P). The Penguins are on the opposite side in the playoffs with them just squeaking into the playoffs on the last day. Only the Flames had fewer points than the Penguins out of teams who made the playoffs. They will be hoping centres Sidney Crosby (84 P, 77GP) and Evgeni Malkin (70P, 69GP) to lead them past the Rangers. They will also need Marc-Andre Fleury (.920Sv%, 2,32GAA) to put up better numbers than his career playoff numbers .905Sv% and 2.68GAA. He will need to outplay his Rangers counterpart Henrik Lundqvist (.922Sv%, 2.25GAA) who has a save percentage of .922 and a goal against average of 2.24.
The series will prove to be tough for the Penguins and might not be able to win more than a game or two. In game 1 the Rangers will come up on top with Lundqvist posting better numbers than his career playoff average and Fleury will put up below par numbers. In game 2 it will be similar goaltending stats for Lundqvist and Fleury will be much better but it won’t be enough for the Penguins to win the game. Game 3 will go to the Penguins due to great scoring from Crosby and Malkin and good goaltending from Fleury. Game 4 and 5 will have a lot more scoring but the Rangers will outscore the Penguins in both games thanks to Rick Nash who will record 4 goals in the games.
