In New York the Washington Capitals will stay. This time it is against the Rangers. The two goaltenders Henrik Lundqvist and Braden Holtby have been two of the best goaltenders in the playoffs this season. Lundqvist has a Sv% of .939 and a GAA of 1.53. Holtby has a Sv% of .943 and a GAA of 1.63. Lundqvist conceded more than one goal in one game in a 4-3 loss to the Penguins. Holtby missed game 2 due to an illness. Derick Brassard and Nicklas Backstrom lead each team in points with 4 and 6 respectively. The Rangers had a much easier path to the second beating the Penguins in 5 games. The Capitals had a much tougher path having to play seven games to beat the Islanders. Both teams won 2-1 in each of their final games of the series with Carl Hagelin scoring the OT winner and Evgeny Kuznetsov scoring the game winner. Two of the best goal scorers this season, Alex Ovechkin and Rick Nash face off looking to get the better of the goaltenders.
This will be a tough series with not much between the two in terms of goaltending and scoring. Game 1 will go to the Rangers with another low scoring game. Both goaltenders will be superb but the Rangers will just nick the winner. Game 2 will be more open scoring but will still be a tightly contested game with the Rangers yet again winning. Game 3 will go to Washington with Ovechkin and Backstrom taking over the game and beating multiple times. Game 4 will go to the Capitals again thanks to Holtby this time. Game 5 will be Rick Nash’s game with the hats being thrown on the ice to put the Rangers past the Capitals. Game 6 will be the end of Washington’s season with Lundqvist outplaying Holtby to put the Rangers in their second straight Eastern Conference final.
