Well, here I am hanging out at home and I am feeling bored so I thought "Hey, why not write a quick blog so I can read responses that say either 1. How stupid I am, 2. Good read or maybe some random 3rd option"
So let me start off this with a quick statement, Eichel is not a better prospect than McDavid. Thanks and now on to the blog.
I decided to write a quick blurb about who I think the Oilers may pick with their first 3 picks, I am going to continue under the assumption that none of those picks are traded off and go from there so without further ado, I present to you
HORSEGUTS 2015 Oilers Picks, please hold your applause until after...
The 1st one here is a complete no-brainer, With the 1st overall pick in the 2015 NHL entry draft, the Edmonton Oilers are extremely pleased to select...from the Erie Otters, Connor McDavid!
And honestly how could we not pick him? This kid is something special but I won't beat a dead horse, anyone that knows anything about hockey knows who and how special this kid is so I will move on to the next pick.
The next selection for Edmonton is #16, which was aquired from Pittsburg in the Perron deal. Thank you Pens!!! I love you for it. This one is a little harder to nail down, I have read multiple blogs, articles and mock drafts and although there in no clear concensus choice here, it seems to be a toss up between 3 players. A small number of people seem to think Jérémy Roy (a 6'0" Dman that played on Sherbrooke in the QMJHL) will be selected here but I am not one of them so I will leave it at that.
The 2nd popular choice here was Paul Bittner, (a 6'4" physical LW that played on Portland in the WHL) and although this may be a viable choice for Peter Chiarelli to bulk up the Oilers forward group, I just don't think he will be chosen. He also scored 34 goals and 71 points in 66 games so he can put the puck in the back of the net. All that said here is who I think the Oilers will take at #16...
Oliver Kylington (a 6'0" dman that played in Farjestads BK in the SEL) and although I may take some flak for this choice, he was originally projected as a top 10 pick in this draft but fell throughout the season. He may be the best skating dman in the draft and has a real nice overall skillset, an elite shot, great first pass and good hockey IQ. He may well end up the big steal of this draft class and it wouldn't kill the Oilers to take a chance with him.
Now on to the Oilers 3rd pick of the draft, it is #33 overall...I think at this point in the 2nd round PC will select MacKenzie Blackwood (a 6'4" Goalie that played on Barrie in the OHL) it seems to be a toss up between the top 2 goalies in this draft class so I decided to go with Blackwood and I have read the Oilers like him too. He is a tall, acrobatic netminder whose aggressive style includes super quick legs, great mobility and he moves really well from side to side. Loves to challenge shooters and gets out on the edge of the paint to cut down the angles, has great rebound control but still needs to work on his puck handling. Not sure how readers will look at this choice but here it is for all to see.
Well that's all I got for now, maybe if I am still bored later on I will move on to who I think may be chosen with the next picks the Oilers have. I hope you liked this blog and if you want an avatar gif made and I like you, send me pm. Cheers
You suck
Wow, now that is a ghost from the past, how are you buddy?
What up my subban?
Are you banned for the next 20 years?
Pretty much
Do you have any available accounts to use still?
Kylington is a huge project and not worth a look in the first round imo.
I like the Samsonov goalie for the second pick, or maybe Kyle Connor slips down a bit but Bittner has the size to entice Chiarelli.
Fuck this shitty comment section.
Thanks for the feedback Dangles but if Kylington could get back on course, he could be an amazing pick, like I said in the blog, he was a projected top 10 pick originally.
With the 16th pick I would like one of Ilya Samsonov, Brandon Carlo, or Paul Bittner. With the 33rd I would like one of Gabriel Carlsson, MacKenzie Blackwood, or Nicolas Meloche. In those orders
I would not have a problem with Bittner at all at 16 though but I am interested in Kylington
You have too many paragraphs :)
