The Calgary Flames Signed Sean Monahan To A 6 Year Contract For Way Too Much Money!

Sean Monahan re-signing i think is a great move by the flames. he is a great player, but Gaudreau is still unsigned ... but he'll sign, and what's so exciting about an RFA contract? we knew he would re-sign, so it's nothing. it's not really big news at all. we all knew he would sign, and he did.

Everybody knew that he would re-sign, and we all know that Gaudreau will sign somewhere. so now, let's talk about the Subban-Weber trade.

I was VERY surprised when i got the news. what are the chances that PK Subban gets traded for Shea Weber? the Subban trade talk was over! that was one of those trades where you have no idea it's coming ... no trade talk about Subban, no trade talk about Weber ... just this trade that suddenly happens. it just happened, and nobody, not one person at all, well, almost nobody saw that coming.

I was more surprised by that trade than no Canadian teams making the playoffs i think.

So where does Russell sign? here are some possibilities in my opinion for what teams he might sign with or what teams might make sense for him to sign with, and not in order in any way:

Calgary Flames
In February, late February, it was announced that the flames had traded Jiri Hudler to the panthers for 2 draft picks. so we all thought Russell was staying. 2 days later ... The Calgary Flames Have Traded Kris Russell To The Dallas Stars! but the thing is, they didn't get enough for him, because they could have re-signed him. so maybe they felt like Dallas wouldn't sign him, and that they could. they need a replacement for Kris Russell, and the replacement could be Kris Russell. but in the end, a 5th round pick for a 2nd round pick and more. still though.

Boston Bruins
Boston NEEDS a Defenseman. Chara isn't the player he was and probably won't be in the league much longer. Krug is good, but part of the reason is because he scores quite a bit. and then they have some 3rd pairing/healthy scratch guys. Kris Russell is as good as Hedman, and if they trade Bergeron for Suter (because Minnesota also needs scoring and Boston Doesn't) and sign Russell, they could get 2 Defensemen, and that would be good. they'd give up one really good forward for 2 really good defensemen. i'd put Russell ahead of Suter.

Toronto Maple Leafs
I could just see him signing there.

New York Islanders
He isn't a forward, but since they lost Okposo and Nielsen for nothing at all, they need to get better. Russell would help.

Earlier with mentioning Hudler, i wonder where he signs. i think he'll sign with Montreal maybe.

But anyway, Monahan got the deal done with calgary.
