Sound Control: Laine/Torts mishaps, DeAngelo's Saga

I love hockey and if I didn't, I wouldn't be writing this. Every week on my podcast I always have something about the Laine/Dubois trade to talk about, and it never gets old. I'm sure by now we've seen the infamous video on the TSN_Official Instagram account where Laine gave a depressing thumbs up and a smile that almost looks forced. Another fun little part about that post was Brad Marchand's comment saying "he looks thrilled." The sarcasm is real, Marchand didn't sugarcoat it whatsoever. Leading up to Laine's first few games as a Columbus Blue Jacket, he's put up three goals, one assist for four points in five games. Not bad from the eyes of fans, but there may be something more that head coach John Tortorella is looking for. Many reports say Laine may have said something not so family-friendly to a member of the coaching staff which caused him to get benched. Some say it was on the bench, some say it was an off-ice altercation. Whatever it may be, Laine didn't see the ice for the final 26:19 of that game against Carolina.
Let's move on to the Anthony DeAngelo saga, a clear mishandling of his own professionalism, and management for not nipping the problem whilst they could. Does everyone remember the 50-point offensive defenseman Anthony DeAngelo was last year? I'm certain everyone had him in their fantasy pool at some point last season. Gathering that DeAngelo was extremely vocal of his political views off the ice, cancel culture made their round with him this time through. DeAngelo has since had his Twitter account deactivated for his views, this led him to start his podcast called "Watch Your Tone." Later down the line, all seemed to straighten itself out, till we hit this season of course. With an already rocky past during his junior days, leading up to his NHL days, he's been traded twice already. Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning, he wouldn't play a game for the Lightning at the NHL level. DeAngelo would be shipped off to the Arizona Coyotes, where he'd see his season evenly split between the AHL and the NHL. Almost a year after his trade to Arizona, DeAngelo would be shipped off to the New York Rangers. Fast forward, he's started his fourth and now final season with the team. An incident with teammate Alexandar Georgiev would land him on waivers and eventually on the taxi squad. After this incident, DeAngelo was told that was the final straw, GM Jeff Gorton would later say in a press conference that "DeAngelo has played his final game for the New York Rangers." It now lands us here, DeAngelo is back in trade rumours, the Rangers are now hellbent on moving this contract. The team is even willing to retain up to 33% of the contract. I don't know where DeAngelo will end up, but Pittsburgh maybe his new home. Ownership in Penguins franchise just hired Ron Hextall as their GM and Brian Burke in the President of Hockey Operations role. Hextall will absolutely be looking to make a splash right off the bat, DeAngelo could revamp his name in Pittsburgh. The ongoing saga has been like a terrible comedic romance film with Adam Sandler as the main character. Alongside fans, I'm sure the Rangers and DeAngelo will go their own ways through trade or buyout soon.
