Brad May Incident..
The people running the NHL ought to take a long walk on the beach and rethink the example they are setting. Why should Brad May play again in the playoffs? He received a slap on the wrist for a ridiculous act. If you or I did what he did, we would be in jail. Heck, he only is out for 3 games, which ironically guaranteed he wouldn't see the Wild for the rest of the playoff series. That should be an insult to the Wild's intelligence. Hockey is a rough game, and it gets rougher in the playoffs, but what May did is not rough * that is an act that puts human beings in jail. I don't have the right to slug someone who is sitting next to me just because I want to.
The league can’t run its game without responsibility to do the right thing. Kids start checking at 11 years old, and it’s the kids between the ages of 11 to 18 that are more impressionable by what they see happening on the NHL ice surface
The Wild GM made a comment afterwards saying that he was not happy with the trade off, the Wild losing Kim Johnson (concussion from the punch to the head) for Brad May. The GM also stated that the league only punished May for 3 games because his hand was hurt and he can’t play anyways. Brad May returned as soon as the 3 game slap on the wrist was done... The GM referred to the trade off as if punching a player in the head when he is not looking and knocking him unconscious is a normal thing in hockey, and the Ducks somehow out schemed him as if he should have thought of it first... We have a problem here gang.... Kids playing the game are watching.
What is fine to do Physical play ; enforcers being involved in the game is fine as they help police a game from teams taking physical liberties with its star players. Eliminating obstruction, Good job NHL, now we need to have that held accountable for players like Pronger who found a way to manipulate the rule. Since Pronger plays 50% of the game you might have wanted to consider looking at how he was playing in the playoffs
What’s is not fine is pretty much everything the Ducks did on its road to win the Stanley Cup - Crosschecking, players can get hurt, it creates an unfair advantage to the player receiving it (every time Scott Neidameyer knew he could get away with it he crosschecked a player in front of the net) just fast forward the game tapes to the last minute of a 1 goal game in the playoffs. Excessive Roughing, hockey is a rough sport, but how many times did Getzlaff and other Duck players wind up and smack somebody in the head at full force with out it being called?? This should be a game that allows players like Bouchard and Comrie to play, and if you let teams crush them by excessive roughing your creating nothing more then a two bit sport. Violence, Brad Mays punch to the head, vicious boarding hits, Vicious blows to head that Pronger received a 1 game suspension with. Suspensions need to be more then 3 games for Brad May (obviously) Pronger hits 1 game (obviously)
Should hockey be a game only for players who are 6 foot are better?? I don’t think its right to lose the integrity of the game by your desire to grow the game in California. What I am saying here is, do the right thing NHL! You have an obligation
