Let's take some time to take a look at the best prospects of the organization. A few of them have a good chance of making the team right out of training camp.
The obvious one is
Nicklas Backstrom who is a very talented young Swede who was drafted 4th overall by the Caps in 2006. The 6'0'' 183 lb centerman should play on the second line with Alexander Semin and Viktor Kozlov. The 19 y-o is a serious candidate to the Calder trophy as he should bank around 75 points in his rookie year!
Eric Fehr will likely make also the team out of training camp. The 6'4'' native of Winkler, Manitoba should play alongside Boyd Gordon and Matt Pettinger on the checking line. Don't expect high offensive numbers from him, but he should tally 15 goals and 35-40 points over his first full year in the NHL.
Tomas Flesichmann should battle for a forward spot during training camp. Last year, his traning camp was not impressive enough to grant him a roster spot on opening day. He should have learned from this miscue and improve his play right from the start this year. Expect him to be the 13th forward and play around 60 games with the Caps.
Jeff Schultz tasted the NHL last year, playing in 38 games with the Caps netting 3 points in 38 games. An offensive-minded defenseman, Schultz saw plenty of power play time last year when he was recalled from Hersey. However, this year Tom Poti was signed by Washington, so his PP time should be reduced. Expect around 70 games for the youngster along with 20 points.
Do you think any other prospect has a chance to make the team this year??
no two of you prospects one very well Schultz played here in Calgary played well here in Calgary , and Eric Feher is a very good forward will do well played for the wheat kings, good assessment slasher good jobFlamestr
if NHL07 for the PS2 is any sign, Backstrom is a lock for the Calder Trophy!
Slasher, thanx for the review of your prospects. I can see improvement with this team, problem is though, they may have a problem moving up in the much improved east, but they will show some improvement. Good post, look forward to seeing more like this. Thanx.
