Last night during the Canucks preseason opener, Ryan Shannon stepped up and made everyone take notice of him. My sentiments were echoed by the Canucks website this morning(I'm glad I beat them to it) 5 on 5 he was lined up with Byron Ritchie and Mason Raymond(Also vying for a roster spot) and could have set up two goals for Raymond, had Ilya Bryzgalov not been on his game.
Shannon also got the oppertunity to play the point alongside Kevin Bieksa.
I played [the point] in college,
said Shannon.
It was a new experience in the NHL. Its a lot faster.
He set up the Sedin twins and Josef Balej with some incredible passes that almost resulted in goals. He has a nice point shot that made it on net numerous times and almost scored back door goal set up by Daniel Sedin.
Even though he isn't the biggest player in the NHL, he proved last night that he deserves a spot on the Canucks roster. I'm not one to say
I told you so, but I think I just did.
