As some of you may or may not know, long time color commentator Jim Lorentz retired from the Buffalo Sabres last week after 26 years as a broadcaster and 10 years as a player with Boston, St. Louis, The New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres leaving an opening for the seat next to legendary play by play man Rick Jeanneret who has been calling games for the Sabres since the 71-72 season.
During the final three preseason games, the team used three different former Sabres players as the color commentator while trying to find a replacement for Lorentz. Matthew Barnaby, John Tucker and Mike Robitaille finished out the preseason, all doing a great job filling in for the departed Lorentz.
According to The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail. The Buffalo Sabres are set to announce that Harry Neale will be leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs broadcasts and joining Rick Jeanneret in the booth for Sabres broadcasts. However it is also reported that Harry Neale will NOT be leaving Hockey Night in Canada and will continue calling games with another legendary play by play man Bob Cole.
When it was announced that Jim Lorentz had retired, I had thought to myself how tough of a job it was going to be to fill the shoes of "The Batman" who got the nickname from hitting a bat out of mid air with his stick during a game in which a bat had found its way into the arena. Though hearing the news that the replacement is going to be none other then Williamsville (suburb of Buffalo) native Harry Neale, I couldnt think of a better color commentator that will mesh as well as I believe Rick Jeanneret and Harry Neale will.
Welcome aboard Mr. Neale!!....
With the start of the 2007-2008 Buffalo Sabres campaign coming up this Friday as the team hosts their 1st round match up from the post season a year ago The New York Islanders. The Sabres have sent down three players to the AHL Rochester Americans...
D Michael Funk who in 2 games posted 2 pts with 2 assists.
F Mark Mancari who in 4 games posted 1 pt with 1 assist
F Marek Zagrapan who in 5 games posted 2 pts with a goal and an assist
I expect to see these guys back up with the big club sooner rather then later as these three are just a few names of the great youth this Buffalo Sabres organization has.
Lorentz was horrible, he was such a homie it got pathetic. I've listened to the sabres' games since ed kilgore hosted and ted darling did the play by play......Lorentz's biased commentating was a joke..........i have no doubt he was told to retire........at least i hope so.
This is great feakin' news!
How come I can't read the messages left for this blog?
No supprise but it would of been nice if they could of kept Zags up.
GOOD RIDDANCE TO YOU, Harry!t.o. fan
The Sabres finally got a great guy to come to Buffalo, i thought Sabres broadcasts were fun before now we have the best play by play guy and the best color guy out there ,this is beyond awesome
Any chance Lorenz still does the color on nights that Neal is doing Hockey Night in Canada?
