So here we are at the mid-point of the year and it's not been a pretty one for the Hurricanes.
GP W L OL P GF GA
Carolina Hurricanes 42 20 18 4 44 130 137
44 points in 42 games and a record at exactly .500 does not exactly scream champion.
Injuries seem to have hit there peak as the team is missing:
Scott Walker, Bret Hedican, Niclas Wallin, Matt Cullen, Justin Williams, Andrew Ladd, David Tanabe.
So, with that said, lets take a look at how the players have been doing
Eric Staal: B
He's played OKAY... but hasn't done much special so far. Production is average ad not the rebound we were hoping for.
Justin Williams: B+
Williams was quietly one of our best forwards, but he's gone for the season now.
Rod Brind'amour: B-
With age starting to catch up to him, his production is slowly tapering off.
Matt Cullen: A+
Everything beyond expectations from this guy, but after suffering a cocussion, who knows what we'll get from him.
Andrew Ladd: A
He's been the physical force we all hoped he would be, and (when he returns from surgery) should continue on his way to his most productive season yet.
Jeff Hamilton: C
Good at what he does, but that doesn't amount to much.
Ray Whitney: A
Ray continues to be one of the most dangerous 'Canes on a nightly bases
Frantisek Kaberle: D-
Poor production, poor defensive play... definately worn out his welcome in Raleigh
David Tanabe: C
Decent, but not great. Same old Tanabe.
Glen Wesley: B+
Still among our most consistant Defensemen
Mike Commodore: B
Solid defenseman still trying to settle into a role as a two-way guy or defensive specialist.
Erik Cole:C+
He seems to come in streaks. Disappears for stretches then returns with a big game.
Chad Larose: A
Better than expected. Irritating to play against to be sure.
Dennis Seidenberg: B
our most solid D-man thus far.
Scott Walker: B-
Has a knack for the rough stuff, but puts up mediocre numbers. Has shown more heart than any player on this team.
Bret Hedican: C+
Age and injuries have finally and unfortunately caught this man.
Trevor Letowski: D
I question why exactly he is even on this team at times...
Cam Ward: C+
Started the year on fire, slowly drifting into obscurity once again.
John Grahame: C-
Had a couple wins, but erratic goaltending to say the least. He's gone now...
Craig Adams: C
Another player who is usually a solid defensive forward, but can't put up the numbers. Been less than stellar this year.

You'd rather have Letowski over Kaberle, Ladd over Staal, and Walker over Cole?I fail to see the logic in this article...
Rankings are based on performance based on their role on the team. How they've played compared to how they should be playing or can play.
