Just thought I'd round up today's top stories;
Scotty Bowman came out today and said that he has no plans on leaving Detroit to join the dysfunctional Maple Leafs should they shake up the front office. As we all know, Bowman appeared in an interview on Hockey Night in Canada this past Saturday where he spilled the beans about MLSE. He said that the MLSE board of directors turned him away last summer when he had requested to take on a "Brian Colangelo" type of role with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
What is even more disheartening to Leaf fans like my self is that Bowman also stated today that he doesn't think anything with change with the Leafs organization anyway. Also stating that the season was past the midway point and that it was simply to late to do anything.
I think this is all game being played by Bowman by getting himself in the news about this. I think he knows full well that while this team is not bound for the playoffs, there is a lot that has to be done before the end of the season. I believe there is much more to this Bowman story than meets the eye.

The Curtis Jospeh sweepstakes are finally over. Joseph has signed with the Calgary Flames today. It was reported that Joseph had signed with the Flames earlier this afternoon by Sportsnet and ESPN as well as other media outlets. However, TSN as well as Eklund denied that it was a done deal. Derren Dreger said that the Rangers were still involved as well as the Maple Leafs. For a while it looked as if we were headed for another Nylander situation. This was a little too much of a circus act for a back-up goalie, who could have been had by any team prior to today.
It was a good move by the Flames. They have a strong team and could go deep in the post-season. Prior to the beginning of the season, I had picked the Flames to win it all. Kiprusoff has been a little inconsistent this season, but this signing should provide remedy to that.

In other news, it looks as if Spezza will play tommorow night. Sens fans were fearing the worst after the hit by Meyer in Sunday's game. The team has already lost their all-star winger Dany Heatley for atleast 4 weeks.
Speaking of Dany Heatley, it was announced today that Marc Savard will replace him on the All Star team. In my opinion, Savard should have already been on the team, but it all worked out anyway.

Peter Forsberg is also scheduled to start skating in 2-3 weeks time. It looks as if the Flyers are the favourites right now to land the big Swede, but I wouldn't count out the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs are in serious need of offensive help as both Sakic and Smyth sit out with injuries. Foppa has a history with the Avalanche where he won a Stanley Cup. Don't be surprised if Joe Sakic convinces him to rejoin the team.

Outside the NHL, I want to congratulate my New York Giants as well as other Giants fans for advancing to the NFC Championship yesterday with their win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants will play the Green Bay Packers next week at the legendary Lambeau Field for the NFC Championship and the opportunity to play in the Superbowl. Should be a good game. I can't believe that the Leafs are playing next Sunday @ 5pm. Oh well, I'll watch them for an hour because @6pm its Giants vs. Packers.
As for the Cowboys, did anyone see Terrel Owens crying after the game? Does the guy actually have a heart or was this another cry for attention? time will tell.

Colorado and Ottawa should be leading the Foppa sweepstakes. both have been interested in him all along, and now have players in their top line injured. Vancouver is another team that could really use him, since they've been looking for more offense (and a guy to get Naslund going again) all year. Detroit and Philly might be interested, but they both have full rosters and little cap room.
kudos to the giants they played great! owens was crying because he won't be on tv anymore this season how will he feed his huge ego. great move by the flames. the leafs will get better when peddie gets a total control hockey department instead of the circus he has presently
