After watching a very emotional Paul Maurice breakdown into tears during his post game news conference on Saturday night after a 3-2 loss in San Jose, we would all start to think that MLSE would give both Paul and John Ferguson the way out so they wouldn't have to deal with this mess anymore. Well, guess again.
Maurice and Ferguson both still have their jobs (as of now). At about 6:30 this evening, Bob McKenzie report on TSN that Richard Peddie (president of MLSE) have made a few phone calls to various available general managers around the NHL, one of them included, 80 year-old and former GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Cliff Fletcher, and yes all of this is still going on while John Ferguson is still the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and to make matters worse for Ferguson, he didn't know anything about it probably until the report came out.
If this is how he treats his employees then good luck attracting anybody to come work for the Leafs, who are one of the most valuable franchises in the NHL and who are a lot the New York Yankees but are looking more like the New York Knicks. The last thing that this team needs is a bonehead like this running a hockey team. He has taken this team by the throat and killed it.
It amazes and scares me that Leaf fans, including myself, are pouring the amount of money in the hands and people like Richard Peddie, and for what are we doing it for. To watch hockey team in which our ownership has put in the smallest effort into helping and really making the best decisions for this hockey team. I am still trying to understand what, MLSE (who might aswell now call themselves Most Laughable Sports Enterprise) sees in this guy.
I must also comment on an interview that was broadcast on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday night before the Red Wings and Senators game with Ron MacLean and Scotty Bowman. I think Leafs fans learned a lot more from this interview from Saturday night when we heard during the summer that Bowman wasn't interested in coming to the Leafs during the summer. After, what Bowman calls, good meetings with the chairman of MLSE, Larry Tanenbaum, met with Richard Peddie a week later and was told buy MLSE that they were not interested in him.
Yes, its true. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment turned down one of the most respected people in hockey. MLSE employees can't even come close of dreaming of becoming a hockey hero like Scotty Bowman. They will never get even close to as much respect as he has made.
Agreed. I am utterly disgusted by the way they are treating Paul Maurice and JFJ. Maurice is an excellent coach and everyone on the team I'm sure has a ton of respect for him. It's the idiots at the top that everyone hates and are the reason this team will never succeed.
I seriously hope that Peddie can not eat a meal in the city of Toronto without some Leaf fan that works for the restaurant "seasoning" it in some way, shape or form.
