Kolzig got screwed

I saw this article in the Washington Post earlier

Though they are not my team, it seems (and I feel) terrible how the Caps organization handled this situation. I have liked Kolzig as a goaltender, and can see he basically got replaced by Huet. I can understand that the Caps need a young goalie for the future of the franchise (Huet is 32 but probably has 6 more years of consistent play left) but really, Kolzig got screwed! He has been the goaltender for the Caps for over a decade, led the team to the cup finals, stayed on the team during their down days, and still loved playing for the team...until the trade deadline.
From what the article says, it appears he feels he has been replaced and that the team has severed ties with him.I would have loved to see him play a game at least, but it seems Caps management have chosen their path.
It saddens me to see this situation play out. Caps fans, not a bash on the team cause i got a liking for the Caps, but I think management should have handled this better. The least they could, no, SHOULD, do, is retire Kolzigs number in appreciation for all he's done.

I agree completely...he's a great goalie and they handled this whole situation so poorly...the Caps wouldn't have had a prayer of making it into the playoffs if he didn't keep them in it all season. I think people forget that they JUST got Huet at the deadline. Kolzig was great for them. I also think that they should have at least tried playing him in our series because the Flyers clearly had no real problem scoring on Huet. I hope they will recognize Kolzig for all his effort.
Remember what they got Huet for (a 4th rounder I believe)...at that point, they couldn't turn it down. Kolzig was good but showed his age at times on cross-ice plays. Huet was the better, more agile goaltender and deservedly got the starts.

Kolzig had a save percentage below .900, without huet they don't make the playoffs.
Kolzig was awful most of the season. He had one of the worst save percentages in the NHL of starting goalies. Coming down the stretch, the Caps won 11 out 12 games. Guess who lost the one? The Caps had no choice playing Huet. If they lost one more game - they would not have made the playoffs.
I know like that sucks and all for Kolzig, but I think people take some of this stuff too personal sometimes...It's a business, just like anything else, and business decisions will happen in order to help improve the employers financial status..I'd probably feel bad for him, except for the portion of that article that says he excepts work to be found for Kolzig next season...Whether that's here in NA or in Europe or Japan, he'll be playing and making some $$$
i agree that it was sad to see, but they got exactly what they needed for a relatively cheap price. 88 is right. without huet they are watching carolina play lhilly
Kolzig did not get screwed...he got old. I would have loved to see him be in the net for our team in the playoffs, but only if he would have been able to get the job done. The job was his to lose once Huet got here, because they were basically alternating it. Huet stole the job and performed admirably in the playoffs, in my opinion. Kolzig has a lot of pride and wears his heart on his sleeve, so what he is doing does not really surprise me. I would like him to be back next year and retire a Capital, but only as a backup. I dont know where his agent thinks he can be a full-time starter, because he just can't do it anymore.
