RIP Tim Russert (1950-2008)

As most of you know by now, Buffalo's own Tim Russert passed away Friday afternoon from what is being described as a "sudden cardiac death". The 58 year old South Buffalo born was best known for his 17 year stint as host of NBC's "Meet the Press" while serving as NBC News Washington Bureau chief. He was also a distinguished author with two best selling books "Big Russ and Me" and "Wisdom of Our Fathers: Lessons and Letters from experiences with their Fathers".
What some of you may not know is that Tim Russert was an avid Buffalo sports fan. He would often end his "Meet the Press" show with a "Go Bills" and when the Sabres were deep into the playoffs, he would have the Stanley Cup on the set of his show or on the "Today" show (which he would make frequent guest appearances) with his Sabres jersey in hand to let the country know that he is behind and supports his Sabres.

Yes, I know this is not a true Hockey blog but I wanted to let people know that on Friday, one of the biggest Sabres fans moved onto a much better place and will be surely missed by many. He represented Buffalo with class, integrity and showed what being a true Buffalonian is all about.
My Families thoughts and prayers are with Tim and his Family.

THANK YOU for posting this! Most appropriate for this site. Tim was a most avid football and baseball fan, but he was also a HUGE hockey fan! He loved the Sabres and sadly, he never saw them win a Cup. (one day it will be happen) He will certainly be missed. A wonderful blog and may Tim always be remembered.

Wonderful tribute to Tim Russert, Jimmer. He was, above all, a family man and proud Buffalonian.
I is always sad to lose a Bills and Sabres fan, but when it is one who is prominent in the national media, the loss is even more acute.
I'm not from Buffalo and not even American. That said, I am a big fan of Meet the Press and a bigger fan of Tim Russert.He will be missed tremendously.My heart goes out to his family

It's a shame that for most people, it took his death to show what kind of a great guy he was on so many levels. It's pretty difficult these days to be in that kind of a business where EVERYONE loves and respects you. That's just the kind of man he was. Great post Jimmer. He will surely be missed. I'll be sure to read his "Big Russ and Me" book. I hear it's great but now that he died reading that book will surely be emotional.
Russert was good, but he didnt have anything on Craig Oliver or Jane Taber...QUESTION PERIOD FOREVER!!! CTV Sundays at noon
