The Flyers have signed recently acquired defenseman Steve Eminger to a one-year contract. At first I was skeptical about the Flyers trading the 27th pick for a sturggling defenseman and a 3rd round pick. After a few days of thinking it over, it seems like a good deal. Eminger might just need a change of scenery same as Coburn did. This deal is a bold move on Homer's part. He could bust and leave the team as soon as next off season, or could be an integral part of the team's defense for the better part of the next decade. The one-year contract will basically serve as a tryout. Hopefully he is making under $1.3 million. With this signing the Flyers are entering next season with 10 possibly NHL ready defenseman: Timonen, Coburn, Hatcher(barring retirement), Jones, Niskala, Gauthier(Phantoms likely), Eminger, Kukkonen, Platil, and Parent. That doesn't even count the defenseman wanting to make the jump within the next three years: Bodrov, Ratchuk, Bartulis, Marshall, Guenin, Bourdon, Sbisa, and Lehtivuori. Most of the these eight are projected top 4, but the majority will either bust or become #5/#6, but that still leaves us with too many defenseman. My prediction is Homer pulls of something big in the coming days.
i'd like to see: timonen/coburn.... FA/Parent.... Eminger/Jones
yeah real big. he already dealt away umberger. last yr. was his homer's up call to the league when he signed Briere. btw, Eminger was a 1st rd pick of the Caps in 2002, 12-th overall. he was not a 3rd rounder.
He never said he was a third rounder. We traded The 27th for Eminger AND a third round pick....
Thanks for correcting him MBFlyerFan. Chipiii, that is pretty much the lines I'd like to see. I am hoping Kukkonen is traded somewhere he is guaranteed ice time and Hatcher should retire and take a job coaching the PK for us in a few years.
