That's right. Forget about tomorrow (Tuesday July 1st) as a day that your team will get better. Darcy might try to make a splash by signing a UFA, but his bid will fall far short of what other ravenous teams out there will be offering.
Wait for Wednesday and Thursday to arrive, when the big money is off the table, and the Tier 2 UFA's are still around. I'm forecasting that's when Darcy will be really active, with either bringing in new free agents, or with some trades.
Darcy has goods for trading (prospects, veteran players, etc) and cap space to work with. We have loads of NHL-ready wingers and forwards. I expect Darcy to do some things this week, but nothing big on Tuesday.
So for all of you Canadiens (or hockey crazed Americans) who are taking off work tomorrow....if you are a Sabres fan, don't waste your vacation time. Save it for Wed or Thurs!
Its par for the course for Darcy to wait everyone out till the last possible minute. Two guys rumored to maybe be Buffalo bound are already gone( Rolston and Liles ) Maybe Aaron Miller for D or a gritty F like Ruttuu will have to do fo now. Not expecting a lot!
Good blog, I agree with you...but UFA Day is always fun anyway to see what happens around the NHL and what teams will do.
UFA day will be a blast, some co-workers and I will be hitting F5 throughout the day on several sites to get the latest updates. But knowing how inactive the Sabres will be, I'll still be sitting at my desk at work throughout the day.
Same old, Same Old with this front office, I feel kind of bad for Darcy (As bad as you can feel for a guy working in pro hockey) he is handcuffed by a cheap owner with a big mouth that won't back his words of bringing in top tier FA's and a mouth piece in Larry Quinn that dismantled the last Buffalo Cup team! I don't see Buffalo making a splash bigger than the one Greg Louganis made when he hit his melon on the platform and still managed to medal......I would go as far as to say Miller might be out of here after next season as well. Boooooo Sabres, Booooooo.
I also agree, the only way Buffalo makes headlines tomorrow would be through a trade. Last year, that drove me nuts, but this year I like where Buffalo is sitting so waiting a few days or probably a few weeks to let the overpriced players find new homes is fine with me.
