Hockey in the Summer

I've been checking this site on occasion this off season. Lately I've been thinking: What ever happened to seasonal sports? I love hockey. I'm 30 and have been playing hockey since I was a Mite. But the summer was for baseball. I can't think of a sport that my buddies and I didn't or don't play. And being interested in numerous sports, I watch what I have time for, and follow them as best I can. But it seems like every sport is a now a year-round event. Sure, I like the excitement of July 1st for hockey. But it's summer. I'm watching baseball. I don't care about the NHL or the NFL right now. Just like in the fall I'm watching the MLB playoffs, not preseason hockey. And in the spring I'm watching the NHL playoffs, not April baseball. Am I the only one who likes a break from the sports I like? Or are you doing the same: checking in on occassion but focused on other sports till the fall?

To hell with summer, drop the puck.
I stopped watching baseball many years ago. When I was growing up, baseball was for real. There were very few errors and only the cream of crop could hope to play major league baseball. The AAA minor league teams of that era were far superior to the shoddy, error-prone "athletes" of today. There were no drugs, including steroids, the players earned their records with no assistance from artificial sources. The players played the game because they loved it, not because they became instant millionaires as the ink dried on their contracts.As for football, which I watch occasionally, and hockey, which I watch more often; football has been the least impacted by expansion. You can still watch a football game and see the sport played the was it was intended by originator.Hockey, on the other hand, has suffered adversely from expansion and rule changing. I can remember watch NHL games in which the scoring of more than three goals was almost unheard of. I guess what I am trying to say is that baseball is filler between the football and hockey seasons. It has little to offer "real" baseball fans.
I see where your coming from but for people like me it's hockey all the time and ill work in football during the fall and winter but baseball is too boring to watch so i go out and play some hockey insted
I play hockey all summer, and could do without any sort of hiatus. I enjoy baseball, but it's got nothing on a hockey game. I can't remember the last time I actually watched a NFL or NBA game.
Baseball was something we did as kids to pass the boring summer days. I enjoyed it but for me baseball players are a bunch of pussies. A hangnail gets them a trip to the D/L. Ultimate toughness I saw was Barry Beck getting his face sliced and returning next period after having it sewn up (don't remember how many stitches but believe it was around 95 or so)
Huh. Didn't see this coming. I guess this site is for hockey fans, I just thought there might be more people like me out there. I'm not as big a baseball fan as I used to be, especially since the lockout. But I can do without hockey year-round. I actually skate year round, but that's more of a social/exercise thing. I'm talking NHL. I'm ok with the break. I enjoy it. I lose two months of my golf season by sitting home watching playoff hockey. Not really a bad thing, but I welcome the free time to do other things and watch other sports from June-October.
