TV Announcers: Making huge Understatements

You know when you turn on the TV and hear an update from TSN telling you that Player X has signed a deal for just over 20million over 5 years and then it shows on the screen it was 20.4million? Is it just me or is the biggest joke that 400 thousand US can be considered just over. How many people who read this can make 400k in that 5 year span? Are we really losing perspective in todays big money NHL? Your comments appreciated.

"Professional" athletes in all sports are egregiously overpaid. Most have little or no intrinsic utility - they contribute almost nothing of permanent or significant value to society. Most are far too young to appreciate their good fortune, and they dissipate their wealth on frivolous and unhealthy pursuits. They are fools and the fans, of which I unfortunately number, are even bigger fools for financing them. Although, to my credit, I do not pay a premium to the satellite company for the "sports" package. Also, I rarely attend games.
I will assume you are referring to PMB's contract. I can see teh angle the TV announcers are using by this. 400,000 is not that much in any major sport these days.
From a cap point of view the 400k over 5 years doesn't mean too much but I just think its amazing we've come to this point where 400 thousand dollars is an afterthought.
well when you consider it is 2% of his total contract, then ya it is an afterthought. It's the same as if you made $51,000 for refrence sake you'd probably consider yourself making $50,000

What's going on with Chad Kilger these days anyway? First he went MIA in TO and then after he was traded he went MIA in Florida. Personal they say. Just wondering.
When you play in Florida the media doesn't really care so no-one really knows I guess. I'd like to know though.
Kilger has a drug problem I think. He's trying to work that out.
