Now that the Hockey Offseason has kicked off, I would like to propose some deals that I believe make many teams better. Feel free to post your counteroffers or tell me If you think I am completely out to lunch on any of these trades.
#1 – The Heatley Sweepstakes
With rumours swirling about Danny Heatley wanting out of Ottawa, here is offer I would propose if I am the GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets….
Ottawa – 1st Round Draft pick (16th overall), Rostislav Klesla (1.6M), Jakub Voracek (1.27M), Jared Boll (.743M)
Columbus – Danny Heatley (7.5M)
Danny goes to play for a team that is on the verge of becoming a contender and a chance to play with Nash, which would automatically give them one of the best lines in the league.
This deal is heavy on young unproven talent for Ottawa, but the potential is there. Columbus has the upper hand here because everyone knows that Heatley wants out. If Ottawa wants more potential and less grit they can replace Jared Boll with Derick Brassard. It also leaves cap space for Ottawa to go out and sign a quality forward like Mike Cammalleri or even take a chance on another dangerous RW in Marian Gaborik……
#2 – A Maple Leaf Dream
Phil Kessel is looking for a substantial raise. The Leafs have the cap space to make this happen… As a Leaf fan I think I might be a little out to lunch on this trade, but let it simmer…I think it makes sense.
Toronto – Phil Kessel (RFA), Milan Lucic (850,000)
Boston – Tomas Kaberle (4.25M), Mikhail Grabovski (RFA)
At first glance this looks one sided for the Leafs. However, I see Mikhail Grabovski as a poor man’s version of Kessel and can you imagine the Boston Powerplay with Kaberle feeding the puck to Chara?
#3 – Bring the kid home
Buffalo – Patrick Kane (3.725), Cristobal Huet(5.625M), Chicago 1st Round Pick (28th Overall)
Chicago – Ryan Miller (6.25M), Jason Pominville (5.3M)
Unless Chicago re-signs Nikolai Khabibulin, they are going to need a goalie. I do not believe Huet is going to make the cut, and Antti Niemi isn’t ready to be a starter in the NHL. Bring in Ryan Miller and Chicago looks scary for next season. Patrick Kane going the other way makes Chicago’s offense less dynamic, but the Sabres deserve to have a star player and a hometown hero to play with Vanek.

Chicago would never make that trade. period.Also, I think Columbus is giving up too much in their first AND Voracek... that said, Klesla and Boll don't hold much value for the Sens... I'd say more like their 1st, Raffi Torres and Klesla for Heatley
Wow...not a single one of those trades are remotely feasible...the Blue Jackets get robbed, the Bruins get robbed and the Blackhawks get robbed (are you seriously suggesting they trade Kane for ANYTHING?).
