This all began about 4 weeks ago, when Dany Heatley requested to be traded out of Ottawa. He gave the Senators a list of teams he wished to be traded to. On that list, was the Rangers, Sharks, Kings, Bruins, Blues, Red Wings, Black Hawks, and Canucks. There was a ton of interest in the sniper, but Sens GM Bryan Murray claimed he "hadn't recieved a leginimate offer" for Heatley. The saga went on and on and on, as rumors came in, and passed. At first he was rumored to heading to the St. Louis Blues. That rumor passed, as there was apparently no offer. He was then rumored to be a Canuck, joining the Sedin twins and winning a cup. The rumor was denied by both sides. Then the Heater was strongly rumored to be on his way to the Big Apple to reunite with Wade Redden, who are longtime friends. The offer was not considered a good one. Then on June 30th, he had reportedly accepted a deal to Edmonton, a team not even on his wish list. Eventually, it was classified as a rumor, and that he would "sleep on" the offer, deciding between the Rangers and Oilers. This is when the deal gets insane. The next mornig he said that he would never go to Edmonton. Okay let's review. He signs a 6 year deal with Ottawa with a no movement clause, requests a trade, gets an deal and turns it down. Incredible.
Today, the NHLPA spoke out about the Heatley saga saying " We will back Dany to his grave." Could this mean that the NHL may tell the Sens to send Dany Heatley to his desired team, which is said to be the Rangers. The only problem is, his salary is at a hit of $7.5 million and his value has gone up, due to the Sens giving him the $4 million bonus. Honestly, I do hope that Glen Sather is NOT offering for Heatley anymore. As we can see, he is being very ignorant and doesn't look like a good addition to the locker room at this point. It would be great if he had a decent attitude. Even if he did have the additude to fit Tortarella's system, the Rangers shouldn't have 3 guys with a $7 million cap hit, unless there could be some MAJOR offloads. (Rozsival, Zherdev, etc.) Also maybe if Heatley is where he wants to be, he will play yo his full potential eith the right attitude.
If i were to make an offer (not saying Sather should) it could be something like this.....
To the Sens: Rozsival, Zherdev, Potter, Sanguinetti, 2010 1st round & 5th round
To the Rangers: Heatley, Winchester
This makes our lines like this.....
Gaborik Dubinsky Heatley
Higgins Drury Callahan
Avery Anisimov Grachev
Brashear Boyle Winchester/Arnason
Redden-Gilroy
Staal-Giradi
DelZotto-UFA dman
