I can hardly wait for the season to start so Ive been looking at it on and off and this is how i see our Calgary Flames roster shaping up;
Scoring line:
Nigel Dawes ~ Olli Jokinen ~ Jarome Iginla
Scoring line:
Rene Bourque ~ Daymond Langkow ~ Jamie Lundmark
Energy line:
Curtis Glencross ~ Dustin Boyd ~ David Moss
Momentum line:
Eric Nystrom ~ Craig Conroy ~ Brian McGrattan
Which leaves two of
Brandon Prust, Colin Stuart, Fredrik Sjostrom or Garth Murray headed to the minors with the remaining watching from the press box. (my guess is Murray and Stuart are sent to Abbotsford even if they have to clear waivers)
Then on D, we will have;
1st defensive pairing:
Jay Bouwmeester ~ Dion Phaneuf
2nd defensive pairing:
Robyn Regehr~ Mark Giordano
3rd defensive pairing:
Adam Pardy ~ Cory Sarich
Extra defensive pairing:
Staffan Kronwall ~ Matt Pelech
Starting goalie:
Miikka Kiprusoff
Back-up goalie:
Curtis McElhinney
Man, i wish we could signed some one other than Curtis, i like him but it would have been nice to have signed either LaBarbera or Brent Johnson
Let me know what you think, thanks.
Steve
i dont see Sjostrom playing in the minors, we need him on the penalty kill. and i dont think Lundmark may make it, although he will probably be called up quite a bit.and Sarich will most likely be playing with Regehr.Dawes/Bourque - Jokinen - IginlaBourque/Dawes - Langkow - MossGlencross - Boyd - SjostromNystrom - Conroy - McGrattanBouwmeester- PhaneufRegehr - Sarich Giordano - PardyKiprusoffMcElhinneythats how i see it anyway.
ahhh forgot it would turn out like that... ohh well
Sjostrom isn't going to the AHL, he has a one way deal and Brent Sutter is high on him. He will be an every day player. I wouldn't put McGratton in the starting 12 as he will probably used for divisional and misc physical games only.Peelch is heading down to AHL again and Stuart will join since they are on two way deals. Murray or Lundmark will join depending on how their camps go.
How can anyone be excited after looking at those forward line combos. You'd better hope your d is as good on ice as it is on paper because those forwards are going to struggle big time to score.
boyd - jokinen - iginla,bourque - langkow - mossglencross - backlund - dawesnystrom - conroy - prust/mcgratton/sjostromBouwmeester - RegherPhaneuf - GiordanoSarich - Pardy
1-> boyd - jokinen - iginla, 2-> bourque - langkow - moss, 3-> glencross - backlund - dawes, 4-> nystrom - conroy - prust/mcgratton/sjostrom, D1-> Bouwmeester - Regher, D2-> Phaneuf - Giordano, D3-> Sarich - Pardy
*amazing_oilers*I would like to point out that last year the oilers had 2 - 20 goal scorers... where as the flames, even without Cammy, had 4 - 20 goal scorers and 1 - 30 scorer. our team improved defensively whcih will hell relive the pressure to replace Cammy's goals.. your team just got worse..Your oilers need to worry about scoring.. not the flames. How is Heatly doing?
For all of you who think Sjostrom wont be in one of the top 4 lines you are crazy. He is an amazing penalty killer and will be a 3rd liner for sure. Here are my lines1. Bourque - Jokinen - Iggy2. Glencross - Langkow- Moss3. Dawes - Conroy - Sjostrom4. Nystrom - Boyd - Prust With Mcgratton playing every divisional rival gameDefense pairings:1. Jbo - Pardy2. Regher - Sarich3. Phaneuf - Strahlman4. Pelech //i dont have giordano in there cause i think he will be traded
*bigbert65* Me and you certainly think alike. I agree with everything you said. i like the idea of pairing Jbo and Pardy too. i hope gio gets traded... he never really impressed me at all to be honest
I think it's a tad early to look at this even though it's fun because there will be movement before September I think...having said that I think bigbert is as close as it will come.
1)bourque-jokinen-iggy 2)dawes-langkow-moss 3)boyd-conroy-glencross 4)sjostrom-nystrom-prust/mcgrattan D1)regehr-phaneuf D2)bouwmeester-pardy D3)sarich-giordano extra-stralman
Here's what they'll be 1. Bourque Joki Iggy 2.Dawes Langkow Moss 3. Glencross Conroy/Boyd Sjostrom 4. Nystrom Conroy/Boyd McGrattan/Prust . Lundmark will start down in the minors as usual, as will Stuart and Murray Defence: 1. Bouw Phaneuf 2. Reggie Sarich 3. Gio Pardy Extra - Kronwall, with Stralman and Pelech 1-2 respectively as injury call ups
oh and let's not forget Mikael Backlund! For the entire last season, I assumed he would be playing for the Flames this year, but the media is saying that, unless he has an amazing training camp, he'll be down in Abbotsford. However, if he comes up, he'll be on Line 2 with Langkow and Dawes, and all of the lines will be altered (except #1). Same could happen with Lundmark, as he was always a 2nd-3rd line player with us last year
1)prospal - jokinen- iggy 2)dawes - langkow - bourque 3) glencross - conroy - moss 4) prust - nystom - sjostrom D1) jbo - pardy D2) reggie - stralman D3) phaneuf - sarich
Take out Iginla and that may be the worst group of forwards in the league. Lucky for Flames fans he almost makes up for it
*Randy2709* Say that all you want.. the flames have not missed the playoffs since 03'-04'. you're simply ignorant and couldn't recognize talent and cohesiveness if it kicked you groin.
1) Bourque - Jokenin - Iggy 2) Moss - Langkow - Glencross 3) Dawes - Boyd - Nystrom 4) Prust - Conroy - Sjostrom D1) Phaneuf - Regehr D2) J. Bo - Sarich D4) Pardy - Gio ------- F-Extra) Lundmark D-Extra) Stralman ----- I doubt Backlund will be on the Flames this year. One of Kronwall or Sarich is out...my guess is Kronwall, as weird as it is. I hate the McGratton signing as that's a spot out of Prust, Lundmark, or Sjostrom when we need a 1-minute of ice time goon.
Dawes is not ready for the first line.
Hey Rinklighter.....You say you hate the Mcgratton signing but who is gonna fight the tough guys from all the teams in the division and not get their butts kicked? Each team in our div has a legitimate tough guy so I dont think the flames had a choice cause you saw what happened to vandermeer and prust when they fought macintyre from edmonton last year. Yeah he takes up a spot but he wont be playing unless he is needed to fight. My guess is he plays 30 games next year
Randy 2709....this horrible group of forwards you speak of is still better than any group of forwards in the division....throw in one of the best d cores in the entire nhl and you have a pretty damn good team. I bet your an oiler fan who says every year that "this is the year" for the oilers hahaha

If Nystrom can build off his playoff performance, he should make it up past the 4th line and couldbe this year's "most improved". I could see Boyd
