Well folks what can we say about this last loss to the Thrashers. Yeah there we some bright spots, Penner got his 12th, the goaltending is still okay to good. But for some reason this team just doesn't seem to be able to put together a complete game. Skate miles and miles and pass lots with no results most of the time. This is truly a one line team when it comes to scoring. The defense is okay so far, but still not quite there. El Capitano took another goofy penalty that didn't help the cause any.
The power play couldn't get it done with ample chances and the penalty kill gave up 2 to many. Is it time to panic with the season a quarter over. Nope! It wouldn't help any ways. What we have here is a mediocre team even with the same line up they started the season with. IMHO the team ran on adrenalin for the first 10 games, they got some lucky goals even though they were outshot. This team will be struggling come the end of the season just to maybe sneak into the playoffs. I'm not being negative, I like to think I'm being realistic. Any ways here's to hoping they get some of that adrenalin back and start getting lucky again when they shoot the puck. I hope they get an Oilers blogger as well. don't know what keeps happening to them but I miss reading about them.
I thought coaching was the problem ;)
Is there a hockeybuzz Oilers blogger curse? Good post pj50, at least somethings been put up? Where are you Maxbone?
i think the oilers are close to getting over the hump of mediocraty to being a decent team, but there are a few things missing. First, and foremost, bonafied talent that isn't 5'10 or less. I think they need to ship out gagner/o'sullivan/cogliano (not all those guys but those are the options) and bring in a top 6 guy who has size and can score. Adding guys like JFJ/Stone/stortini, who have size/grit, but no real skill isn't going to help the scoring lines that need some battlers.
Zombie,Lot's of us thought that was part of the problem if not the only problem. But with the same line up and new coaches not much seems to have changed. I said right from the beginning that I would wait until at least 20 games were gone before making any kind of judgement. Well nothing seems to have changed from last year and that's about all that can be said for the moment.
DC81, I was told by one blogger that payments were the problem, don't know if it is still an ongoing problem, but that's all I have on it for now.
I think the Oilers will be fine once the flu and injury bug end. The problem now is that our grittiest and meanest players were all out at once (Stone, JF Jacques, Souray, Staios) which meant that no longer could Quinn put grit on each line - As these guys get back in, the line juggling will settle and we'll be able to roll four decent lines again. But the Oilers were decimated by flu and injuries - You don't wanna make changes in the middle of that.
agreed Mikey. people make comments about excuses but this team, under new coaches and systems, has been decimated by injuries and flu to boot. I'll evaluate the healthy lineup before I start judging.
flames 12 is 100% right IMO.
@ pj50, well at least you are man enough to admit the roster is/was the majority of the problem.
we'll see in the not to distant future if changes are in the cards for the oilers. Dam, Kovalchuck would look good in copper and blue.
