With all the centennial celebrations taking place, I couldn't help but feel that Saku should have been there tonight. There was something wrong about him not taking part in the ceremonies. With that in mind and how much Koivu did for the Habs organization, is he someone who's jersey should be retired once HE retires? What do you think? Vote in the poll on Habs to the Top, NOW! The poll is on the right side of the screen and put comments at the bottom!

K.
UPDATE: Thanks to all that voted. Final tally: 56% YES his jersey should be retired and 43% said no. I tend to lie on the side of yes and seeing this TSN feature on him just confirms it to me. Enjoy:

What did he lead them to? 10 years of mediocrity? Is he even a stanley cup winner? Compared to some of the guys that were honored tonight he wouldn't even be my pick to fill the water bottles for those guys.
Okay, when it comes to Koivu, it's not exactly what he himself led the Canadiens to that's important. This guy should be given all the respect in the world okay. He devoted soo much of his reasonable contract to charity in Montreal that it's sick to have anything but the utmost respect for the guy.
I realize I didn't exactly answer the question though....so....NO...although I hate to say it, he didn't put up the stats of a Hall-of-fame player. Buy, the heart of this guy is unmatched by any Hab on the current team....thats whats missing
True but does heart equate jersey in the rafters? I'm thinking no. But hats off to all his time spent in Montreal with all his generosity and giving to the community and various charities.
He was our only good player for maybe 8 of his years here and still was solid, still was a leader, and didn't give any quarter.
my f'ing post didnt work. to summaraize: Smyth and Smith in Edmonton, Linden in Vancouver, Alfredson in Ottawa, Sundin in Toronto. All will be or have been honoured or retired. Koivu will not because Montreal has too many greats
Muffin_man makes a good point in that most cities honor players who try hard, while the Habs honr players who are in the Hall of Fame.
Smith and Smyth? Maybe there has been a video tribute but that's it. If they retire their jerseys they might as well retire every other plug that has ever played for them like Buchberger, and Lowe.
Are you people freaking kidding me? What has he accomplished? NOTHING!
