Possible D Pickups for Devils

The Devils have acquired some much needed offence over the past week and now need to focus on their defence. With the amount of cap space left, the Devils will most definitely pick up a defencemen either through trade or the free agent market. Since there are few options left in the market, the best option may be to look for a trade.
Possible Free Agents
- Francois Beauchemin
- Dennis Wideman
- Cody Franson
Out of these 3 guys Franson would be the ideal pickup. He is younger and fits the system. Some veteran presence from the other 2 players would not hurt either and provide some offensive attributes.
Possible Trade Targets
- Brett Pesce
- Tyson Barrie
- Joel Edmundson
These 3 players would help solidify the Devils defence drastically. Barrie would be the best choice from the 3 as he provides an amazing offensive mentality. Pesce and Edmundson are considered shutdown defencemen and the Devils need that also.

No, it would cost Severson, Palmieri, a 5th round pick, and an 8th round pick.
Probably have to at least start with Ben Lovejoy and Brian Boyle and a 3rd round pick for Doughty.

Why not?
Okay a few things here;1. In no place, in any time, under any circumstannce would the Kings think of trading Doughty. He is the backbone of their team. That's like Pittsburgh trading Crosby or the Oilers trading Connor.2. There are only 7 rounds in the NHL draft, so I'm not sure where these 8th and 9th rd picks are coming from.3. Lovejoy, Boyle, and a 3rd round pick wouldn't land any top pairing defenseman in the league. That wouldn't be enough to trade for Tyson Barrie, let alone a yearly Norris Trophy candidate. Also, the Devils just acquired Boyle, so why on earth would they trade him?4. Severson is not going anywhere so just nix that idea.5. yeah, that's it. But def not happening. These ideas people get in their head are crazy, do some research.
