For almost a week now it has been rumored that The Leafs and The Avs have been trying to make a trade with the biggest name in the deal being Milan Hejduk or Marek Svatos. In return the Avs would likely receive a young defensive and draft picks.

So when you step back and look at this trade, as an Avs fan, are you happy? Right now the Avs have Leopold (26), Liles (26), Hannan (28), Clark (30), Skrastins (33), and Sauer (26) listed on their roster and they just added Jeff Jillson (26) and Dale Purinton (30). They also drafted Shattenkirk and already have Cumiskey, who played well in a few games late last season. If this trade goes through, the Avs will add two more young defensemen to a group that's not old by any means.

In return they give up Milan Hejduk or Marek Svatos. Hejduk is a former 50 goal scorer, one of the few remaining players from the 2001 Cup Team, and the remaining player of the AMP Line. Svatos just signed a new contract and is a proven clutch goal scorer. I'm going to assume the logic behind this is the following: If Hejduk is traded, Svatos fills his role at the 2nd line RW and if Svatos is traded, well he's just a 3rd line player. Is that acceptable though?

Giguere talked about no wanting to mess with the team chemistry (his main reason for not wanting to bring back Peter Forsberg). Is trading Hejduk, a guy who found great chemistry with Paul Stastny at the end of the season, not messing with chemistry? I'm pretty sure it is.

Trading Hejduk would be a mistake, especially if these defensemen don't pan out (something we may not know for a few years). Trading Svatos wouldn't be as bad but it would but it would almost show a lack of faith in him despite signing him to a new contract. I'm hoping the Avs stand pat and make new big moves (trade wise) until the season starts.
