Sabres Calling

Posted 1:20 AM ET | Comments 0
The Sabres have had the busiest off season in recent memory. The question is who is packing their bags now The Feel Good Summer is almost over. Morrison has already asked to be traded and Kotalik, part of the Regher trade, has been widely seen as the other logical choice. Where will they go?
I will suggest Phoenix for Kotalik. They have become experts in reclamation projects. Cast-offs such as Radim Vrbata, Taylor Pyatt, and Adrian Aucoin. Now they are not household names, but they names that their original teams have given up on or have been well traveled to earn a home in Phoenix. Detractors would say they are desperate but it was not so long ago that Buffalo was run by the league and unlike Buffalo they have been able to make the playoffs. Kotalik is very good on the point on the power play and can win you games in a shootout. Phoenix has a good defense and low on scoring. If Kotalik can help the 23rd ranked Powerplay for a fifth round pick. It is a win for both sides
Shoane Morrison is a heart and soul player. When the Sabres signed him it was without much fanfare. We were told he is a gritty shot blocking defender reminiscent of Jay McKee. Unfortunately his season was maligned with injury that also may have reminded Sabres fans of McKee. Morrison was hurt early in the season and never really recovered his original intended spot next to Myers. He only played one playoff game and averaged 16 minutes during the regular season. He is 28 years old 6'4" 212 lbs. Well worth a fourth round pick to provide reliable service for a team like the Islanders.
Others have mentioned Goose, Boyes, or Hecht may be moved. I would move none of them. Boyes provides top six scoring, during a contract year, and could be doing it on a third line with Goose and Gerbe. Hecht can work his accidental goal scoring with McCormick and Kaleta. Although moving Hecht would be desirable he did help land Ehrhoff and is welled liked by the organization despite his struggles on the ice. We are short centermen and Hecht is a serviceable center/leftwing. Kotalik and Morrison are the best options for the time being.
