WOW! I just watched the end of the Montreal-New Jersey game on Versus, and how about those Habs?

I wish I would've seen this whole game, but ending up with 38 saves, obviously Carey Price had to be sensational. I personally have had some concern about Carey but he stepped up in a big game in a big way and I'd officially like to say I'm on the Carey bandwagon. This guy is the real deal.

Let the party begin in Montreal, Quebec! Seriously though, you guys should enjoy this. I've said this before on HockeyBuzz and I'll say it again: The 2007-2008 Montreal Canadiens are JUST LIKE the 2006-2007 Buffalo Sabres. The feel of the team, the energy in the city, the passion of the fans (gave me goosebumps in the final 1:30 tonight!), the style of play, the offensive talent - you guys remind me so much of our awesome run last year. Enjoy it while it lasts! You won't always be at the top, but this year you are, and for a reason. A lot of people say they're surprised you're #1 - I'm not!

I've officially adopted the Montreal Canadiens as my playoff team for this year. Every year when Buffalo is out I do this. My team out west this season is, naturally, Vancouver, which has been my favorite team in the West for more than a decade. They could do some damage, but a lot of uncertainty around them in a powerhouse conference - not as much buzz with them as I remember even a year or two ago.

This leads to my final point. I think the Buffalo Sabres are done this season...

I was at the game last night. It was a perfect display of what Sabres fans have endured all season long. Truly, it was just more of the same.... Beyond our league-leading 9th shootout loss, too much inconsistency - again - from this team. And amidst finger-pointing at management, at lack of leadership, at Ryan Miller or Lindy Ruff at times (come on..seriously now..), this team's INCONSISTENCY is really the reason it's not going to make the postseason this year. What more to speak of that than a 10-game winless streak and 10-game unbeaten streak in the same season? As so many people have said - which Sabre team will show up tonight?

All that being said, I did enjoy the game last night. It was really entertaining even though we did come out on the losing end and the refs were horrible both ways. It was my last Sabres game this season, but I found that rather appropriate - it was their last game too. Now, I just can't fathom a scenario where Philly, Boston or NY (or Ottawa for that matter) tanks enough to even give us a shot at making the playoffs. It's been a fun ride though, and I know we'll be a force in the future.

As I said, enjoy it while you can Montreal. This is your best shot at a Cup in a while. Get it done - I personally hope you guys do.

EDIT: I wrote this blog just before the Flyers' epic collapse in Toronto tonight. I see Kubina just won it in OT. So, yes, I know the Flyers lost tonight. But I'm maintaining my view on the Sabres' fate. Especially with their injuries right now, I still can't really see a way for them to rattle off enough wins. That being said, I'll be diehard following them to the end, and I REALLY hope they prove me wrong! But it comes a point in every NHL season, where a fan has to say I accept the fact the playoffs just isn't going to happen for us this season; I'm at that point of realization.
When you struggle in home games most of February and March; when you can't find a way to get the W in a big game like last night, and most of all when you have a 5-on-3 for a full 2 minutes, as in last night, and can't score - Hate to say it, but you don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

Nice blog. Provided the Sabres miss the playoffs (which I think they will), I will also be rooting for the Habs. They are just a fun team to watch. They are offensively talented and they have a promising young goaltender with big game experience (despite his lack of NHL experience). Out west I will be pulling for the Sharks. If the Sabres can't bring the cup to Buffalo, I will live vicariously through former Sabres (Mike Grier

Habs are a scary team this year. But I think they're more like the Sabres of 05/06, the year the Sabres were a great team leading into the playoffs and went all the way to the ECF (they would have gone all the way if there weren't so many injuries). I also predict that the Habs will upset a big favorite in the East (IMO Pittsburgh) and make it to the ECF as well.Next year, the Habs will be like the 07/08 Sabres and be the best team in the league.
