Before I launch into my game analysis I just wanna thank everyone who took the time to introduce themselves to me at the game tonight. I also want to say what a pleasure it was to meet the one and only Dee Karl. I also had the honor of meeting Dani, the NY Islanders social media manager. A true professional. Oh and I got to meet Stan Fischler. I even took a picture with him!! I posted it on my blog main page.
Tonight the Islanders got romped by the Boston Bruins. I think the Bruins had 3 goals within the first 10 minutes of action. It was certainly a tough night for all those in attendance.
While the Islanders lost on the scoreboard, the night wasn't a total loss for the team. For starters there were plenty of people on hand for the game tonight. To me that is a very positive sign in itself. It shows that the team isn't going unnoticed and people are once again excited to watch these guys play.
It was a rough first period for sure. After starting off very sluggish, giving up the 3 goals in 10 minutes and most of all being out shot by a rather large margin they came out in the 2nd period with a bit more fury then we saw in the first. If you eliminate that first 10 minutes the Islanders were neck and neck with the Bruins for the remainder of the game. Rask had a strong outing and Montoya played pretty solid himself after he replaced Lawson. They caught up in shots on goal and scored 3 goals for the remainder of the game.
John Tavares had a nice night picking up 2 goals. Comeau added 2 points and Bailey added a goal as well. Bailey is riding a 2 game goal scoring streak. Doesn't sound like much but considering he went over 20+ games without a goal it is nice to see him light the lamp a little.
I think playing the Bruins really exploited the Isles need for size. I think that and goaltending were the 2 major factors to the loss. I give them credit for continuing to battle even after being behind by a such a large margin. They never really got themselves close to a W but again, they showed heart.
Other than the size factor and goaltending, I was very disappointed at the level of play Schremp brought to the ice tonight. He played a sloppy game. I was surprised he saw as much ice time as he did. Just my opinion.
By now everyone knows the thrill I get from watching Konopka whoop ass, and whoop ass he did. He leveled McQuaid with some hay makers that sent him to the ice.
Certainly wasn't the outcome we were all looking for, but they battled and battled hard. They weren't getting too many breaks either.
I am sorry to see the 4 game win streak end but if it had to end better it ends to a team that WILL make a strong push at the cup this year, unlike those Pens if Crosby doesn't return. They just have to put this game behind them and move forward to the next. Hopefully this loss won't break their momentum and we can just consider this part of the learning curve.
It was still a great night at "the barn" as Dee Karl calls it. Watched hockey, met some true fans and some wonderful people. I hope to be in attendance on Monday and for those of you I didn't get to meet tonight, hopefully we can on Monday.
Keep showing your support to these guys. They deserve it.
One last note. I posted a survey on my blog and the majority of fans feel that Big Z deserves to wear the captains "C" and I agree.

the schremp experiment is over. In my opinion, we have three centers ahead of him on the depth chart who have the skill but can play much more of a complete game. He doesn't go into corners, he waves his stick at the puck carrier and can't stay in position, and is wildly inconsistant on offense.I don't see a place for him on this team and think they'd be better off without him. Keep him in the AHL if you must, but other than an emergency callup I don't want to see him on this team next season
Z def gets my nod for the "C" next year.....Schremp needsto play with a top tier center i think in order to be effective....hes more of an E n W guy, not N n S player....
Schremp hasn't earned the right to play with a top tier center. I say trade him while he has any value. I think a 2nd rounder would be of value at this point. I think the hope that there once was for him is lost in the shadows at this point
Islanders stink bigtime . Management has absolutely no clue . I feel sorry for a player like Tavares who has to wait for his contract to expire to play for a professional organization
Toronto has the worst GM in the game and that team with all of their money and history will not make the playoffs again. Whose future is brighter? Especially that Richards has said he doesn't want to go to Toronto, that professional city lol. He wants the Rangers
