Another reason why I think Bob Gainey is the best GM in the league! Instead of buying out Samsonov (cap hit of 1.175 over the next 2 years), we have now traded this dissapointment to Chicago in return for Cullimore and Salmelainen (Total Cap hit of 2.65M this year). To make things better, the habs will buyout Cullimore (cap hit of 612,000 over the next 2 years). This is great news for Habs fans everywhere...BG is definately manouvering for a major transaction. All in all...we have saved 600,000$ and picked up a cheap Finn who could potentially fit in with or team (only time will tell). In Bob we Trust!
Samsonov would have been a buyout of 2.35 mil (cap hit) for both of the next two years, so a total of 4.7 mil. Cullimore is useless anll be bought out by the Hab. I'm not sure of their plans w/ Salmelainen, but I'd be surprised if he plays more than 10 games with the Habs next year.
there was a rumor on a site i kind of forgot which site but it said that Gainey might buy out salmelainen as well, take it for what it worth
