In an article in the
Calgary Sun, it reports Martin Gelinas who is eligible for unrestricted free agency on July 1 would like to sign with either the Calgary Flames or Vancouver Canucks to finish off his career.
Martin Gelinas and his family are back in town for the summer, comforted by a recent two-year offer from the Florida Panthers that included a raise for the affable assistant captain. Gelinas, 37, is planning on holding on until he becomes a free agent July 1 and would love nothing more than to return to Calgary or Vancouver to round out his career.
I think this would be an excellent pick up, I have been sitting back for the last few weeks muddling over some possible Canuck line-ups for next season. One (UFA) name keeps hitting the paper, Martin Gelinas.
if he worked out it would be awesome but i think the chances of a free agent bust with this guy late in his career is more likley
I'd love to see Gelinas back in a Canucks uniform, he's a solid two way player and he'd be great on second or third line. The only thing I'd be concerned about with him is his age, at 37, he's not exactly at his prime anymore. But if you look at his numbers they've been solid and I'm confident he'd preform well in Vancouver.
Martin is as fit as anyone, and putting him on the second line would be a stretch. A 3rd liner at best (until he hits his scoring streak, he's good for a couple a season), he's primarily a role player, a major influence in the dressing room and a fine leader in the lead-by-example to show the youngsters how to give it your all every night. If he doesn't come home to Calgary, I'd love to see him in Canucks colors again
