The Nhl Allstar Game

Posted 6:58 PM ET | Comments 0
For years now people have been complaining that the NHL Allstar game has worn out is luster and that it needs to go. With players seemingly opting out any chance they get and the much maligned fact that it does not resemble a real NHL game, it's a fair take. I for one though believe that it's much ado about nothing.

When i was growing up I always tuned in to see the Skills Competition and Allstar game, not because of the kind of hockey that was being played, or the seemingly increasingly low level of compete factor by the players.

It was a way for me to get to see the players enjoying themselves. Players are being interviewed daily, where each word and play is dissected underneath the media microscope and seem to take on a drone like personalty. The media always complains of the stock answers and cliches they get from players on a day to day basis, And now everyone wants to get rid of the one time we get to see these guys open themselves up a bit and let us in?

I always enjoyed seeing guys playing with players from other teams and stars that I never got a chance to see very often, seeing them joke around with one another and show their true selves. Not to mention the immense creativity that they were able to display without a coach breathing down their neck preaching structure and the way they have to play to win.

So basically what I'm getting at here is I think people need to sit back and relax, take the NHL Allstar game for what it is, a chance for the players to have a little fun with one another, relax from the stress of the NHL season and receive a little bit of honour for their accomplishments.

It seems that now everyone is always looking for something to complain about. If you're expecting the Allstar game to get back to what it used to be with players busting their asses, you're looking in the wrong place. It's time to accept it for what it is, and not mock it for what it's not. This game isn't about the fans, it's about the players. That's the way I see it anyways.
