That is a question that all the oiler fans have and are starting to maybe even change their answer. Kevin Lowe is an amazing GM, and honestly the things he has done for the organization is pretty sweet, but not trading any of the first 3 picks of the draft for roster players might have been a great idea.
Look at it, he might still make a deal, and sources all around edmonton says that there is a deal done and that it involves a big name, but really, is one big name gonna make a difference? Even if it is the top notch centre of Ollie Jokinen, I don't think that is the sort of player that will change the team. Wade Redden has yet to waive his no trade clause, and really I doubt he will. I think a Jeff Hamilton, a Roman Hamerlik, a Ollie Jokinen, a Petr Sykora, and a Back-up like Brian Boucher are needed if this will be a team that can compete. I know it is asking a lot but really this team tanked and it needs some veterans to help out the young guys.
We have a lot of prospects for the future, and I think it will make us all the more better. I still have faith Robbie Schremp will crack the lineup, along with Pouliot, and Nillson. I think that is a real good core with Ganger coming in the next few years. But who are you gonna build your team around if your Kevin Lowe? Not Ryan Smyth, so I guess it will have to be Ales Hemsky. I think the Oil can be good, if their GM gets it done. But it needs to be fast.
Im JP, I'll talk to ya again tommorow, and dont forget to keep your head up.
