I love it. Pat Kane would light up the lamp for us. The rumour (per Hockeybuzz writer John Jaeckel) is Pat Kane and Nick Hjalmarsson for Tomas Plekanec and P.K Subban. Not only does this deal make sense for both teams, it is a PURE hockey trade at its finest.
Hawks need a second line centre and an OFD with edginess. They get exactly that with Plekanec and Subban. Montreal, needs a top line scorer and a good 2nd pairing defenceman. They get exactly that.
IMO, Subban AND Plekanec are highly expendable. With young centre Lars Eller expected to improve his two way game (something Plekanec is highly regarded for), the selection of Sarnia Sting offensive juggernaut Alex Galchenyuk, and David Desharnais emerging as the teams number 1 centre, there may not be enough room for Plekanec on the roster -- and on the pay roll.
Now shift your focus to P.K Subban. A fan favourite in Montreal, P.K is a star just waiting to explode. He has unlimited potential to become a team's number 1 defender. His offensive talent is second to none. Why is he expendable? Nathan Beaulieu and Jarrod Tinordi are 2 years away from playing in the NHL. Ride out Markov's contract and play him alongside Gorges and there you have it. Montreal is surprisingly deep on the blueline with a ton of young talent (Beaulieu, Tinordi, then you have Morgan Ellis, Greg Pateryn, St. Denis, Brendon Nash, Mac Bennett and new draftee Dalton Thrower all slated to become full time NHL'ers) plus you have Hjalmarsson coming back, too.
Here's what I think the final trade would look like:
To Montreal:
Patrick Kane, Nick Hjalmarsson, and a conditional 2013 4th round pick (if P.K signs long term in Chicago)
To Chicago:
Tomas Plekanec, P.K Subban, Yannick Weber and a 2013 2nd round pick.
Okay, I think its fair. Chicago fans, you agree? Also Montreal would throw in a young player and likely a pick so I added Weber and the 2nd rounder. Montreal's top pick is untouchable (for right now) but I think a 2nd rounder would get it done anyways.
But, this does leave a hole in Chicago's lineup. BUT, Chicago is in the running for Shane Doan/Alex Semin, and I'm going to assume one of them signs there.
Chicago's Lineup
LW- Pat Sharp C- John Toews RW- Shane Doan/Alex Semin
LW- Michael Frolik C- Tomas Plekanec RW- Marian Hossa
LW- Andrew Shaw C- David Bolland RW- Viktor Stalberg
LW- Dan Carcillo C- Marcus Kruger RW- Jamal Mayers
D- Brent Seabrook D- Duncan Keith
D- P.K Subban D- Johnny Oduya
D- Nick Leddy D- Steve Montador
Starting Goalie - Corey Crawford
Back Up - Ray Emery
(Sorry if I butchered your line up Chicago fans lol don't watch much Blackhawks hockey... but you get the idea, pretty scary line up)
Montreal's Lineup
LW- Max Pacioretty C- David Desharnais RW-Erik Cole/ Patrick Kane
LW- Brian Gionta C- Lars Eller RW- Patrick Kane/ Erik Cole
LW- Travis Moen C- Ryan White RW- Rene Bourque ( :'( )
LW- Brandon Prust C- Petteri Nokelainen RW- Colby Armstrong
D- Josh Gorges D- Andrei Markov
D- Nick Hajalmarsson D- Alexi Emelin
D- Tomas Kaberle D- Francis Boullion
Starting Goalie - Carey Price
Back Up - Peter Budaj
Getting better, but not quite there yet... I'd think this Habs roster would compete for the eight seed, but would fall maybe in spot 9-12... the East is going to be very tough next year.
Okay guys so that's it. Tell me what you think!
P.S, I'm looking for someone to start a TRADE WARS blog with, so if you're a fan of a Western conference team and looking to have some fun, send me a message through my inbox! This is just gonna make your summer pass by faster!
As a Ranger fan I must say Montreal will be better next year as they added our boy Pruster to the lineup. Paying a 4th line winger 2.5 mill for 4 years is going to hurt though. About this trade scenario...Why would Chicago do this? Lets trade our star captain for another offensive dman and sign 36 year old Doan to replace him. Come on.
What a stupid trade idea! This has as much chance of getting done as Crosby being traded. Kane doesn't hold a candle to either Plekanec or Subban on the "Character" issue. Habs don't need that kind of scoring punch. Of course Bowman would make that trade in a heart beat. Maybe Gauthier would've made that trade along with Martin. BUT Bergevin
Not a good idea for Chicago. Give up a top forward in the league and an up and coming defenseman with a cannon shot? No.
Solid idea for both teams but I think for Chicago to give up their former first overall pick that 2nd must be changed to a 1st in 2013.
I don't like this at all, although i wouldn't mind getting Kane, I think Plekanec andSubban are important pieces in Montreal an way better than what we would get back in Montreal. Why does everyone want to get rid of Plekanec and Subban. I'll tell you what, this deal sounds as bad as Patrick Kane, Nick Hjalmarsson, and a conditional 2013 4th round pick for René Bourque, Kaberlé and a fourth round pick to Chicago.Make some sense when you want to suggest deals.
Done deal. Kane needs change to become a more mature player. Of course, this would be contingent on signing Doan.....not Semin. We don't need more character issues. Maybe, Kaner will become a better two-way player and teammate. Love me some PK on blue line!
nope, not a good deal for the Hawks. not enough coming back
its a great trade for both teams, coming from an Oiler fan! but i think if Montreal wants to make a trade like that they are better off to go for a bigger winger, as size is something that would become a factor if montreal adds another small forward like kane!
would the Habs be ok with dealing Subban,Kane is great but Id be good with this.Subban would be awesome to have also
NO ! You do not trade a top 5 young NHL defencman like that. Subban Beaulieu Tinordi sounds alot nicer then Beaulieu and Tinordi. Subban's potential is unlimited at this point as he is 23 and passing that sophmore slump. His size, offencive capabilities and explosiveness.. AS WELL AS his eagerness to win and be the best make him untradeable. Trading Subban would be a mistake.. especially for a small winger.
You make a good point about Subban, ''ShudBeFamous", but at this point Montreal needs Kane more than Subban IMO.
Second line looks like a bunch of midgetsI agree. You have to give up some assets to get some assets
No way this makes sense for the habs. Kane is good and all, but with the youth movement going on in Montréal, why give up young asset for a quick fix today ??? Subban isn't as good as Kane yet, but he has to potential to be a much more usefull player as a number 1 D. Plus he has intangibles Kane doesn't have. No way Bergevin is as blind as this...
Habs have the assets to get the other Kane. Aka Evander. Chicago wants a goalie. If montreal were to get him, I feel it would need to be a 3 way trade involving a goalie who doesn't suck Subban. Those are hard to come by however.
and Subban*
Maybe Subban straight up for Kane.....that's a fair deal. However, why would Montreal want to take on a young kid who clearly has issues. Could you imagine Kane in Montreal? We thought there were issues when we had the whole Price, Lapierre and Higgins ordeal. Oh boy....best to steer clear of Pat Kane. IMO
DD is not a first line center, he did great last year with the two best wingers on the team, 2 nd line center. Eller is being groomed to be like Jordan Staal, Eller will eventually be the number two center. If we gave Pleks in the deal, another deal would have to be made for a 1st line center until Galchenyuk is ready.Nice piece though.
Some Habs fans are saying they wouldn't make this deal.??? No way. If I'm the hawks this deal is horrible..
I'm a habs fan and in all honesty I would LOVE for this deal to go down I'd be excited as hell to see Patrick Kane rocking a habs jersey but let's be honest this deal will never happen it's just not realistic yes it would be a good trade but it wont happen.
If I'm trading Subban
If I'm trading Subban
Hold on to Subban till he retires. This guy is going to lead our team to a cup (alongside Price) Plek is a nice trading piece but Subban should be UNTOUCHABLE.The only PK i want on my team is Pk Subban not Patrick Kane
This has as much validity as Crosby being Traded for carcillo... Plekanec is no where near the skill of Kane and Hjalmarsson may not be as good as Subban, but he has won a cup. Who is Yanick Weber?
A lot of people are ripping on this deal, but its actually really fair for both sides. To those that say Montreal needs youth, Kane is what 25,26? I'm sure you could have an exception for one of the better playmakers in the league. For Chicago, Toews and Pleks would make a solid 1-2 combo, and Chicago would have one of the best (If not the best) top 4 d-men.
Kane is too small and too much of a partier to survive Montreal.
It's a fair deal no doubt, but I don't know what to think... It seems weird the Hawks would do that.
Message PostedIf I'm the habs I'd do it really fast.
I really dont get this trade. just seems like a lateral move with the edge going to montreal
