It is clear we have a couple holes on the Canucks depth chart. In my eyes we need 1 physical stay at home D-Man and 1 grinder who can score when needed to. With only $4.5 mil our options are fairly few, but I feel there is an opportunity here to get exactly who we need and stay under the cap. Now Gillis just needs to pull the trigger before they get snatched up.
My take on who we need to round out and complete this team:
Defence
Option #1
Douglas Murray. Clearly our issue for years has been grit/muscle on D. I really think that he is a great choice here. He should be available for around 1 - 1.5 mil and he is a beast that is impossibly to move in front of the net and blocks shots like a shooter-tutor. Torts would love him.
Option #2
Ryan O'Byrne. A less optimal fit but he is also a big body. Not as physical or intimidating, but he is a local boy being from Victoria. Could be a boost to his game to play close to home. He would probably fall into the 1 mil range so it would be a good depth addition.
Offence
Option #1
Brad Boyes. He is a great playmaker who can hit and dangle a bit when he needs to. He would probably be available for around 2 - 2.25 mil which is perfect for our cap situation. a second line of Booth/Kesler/Boyes would be pretty deadly.
If Booth can find his form again that is.
Option #2
Dan Cleary. A heart and soul kinda guy who is still capable of putting up 40 points in the right situation. He also has the ability to find another gear come playoff time. Detroit can't afford to keep him and it would be nice to add someone who knows what it takes to hoist the cup. Just like Boyes a 2 - 2.25 mil offer should get him.
Those are my ideas of who we need to balance out this team and to maintain our window of opportunity before it slams shut for a couple years. What do you think? Any better choices out there?

Douglas Murray is the guy to get for the canucks IMO. Maybe Brenden Morrow for a cheap price would be good.
bring in morrow, murray is too slow and wont be cheap. boyes is interesting. You forgot to mention the best d available...Hainsey, very serviceable
Message Postedsabres fan here...watched boyes play on the perimeter for his entire time with buffalo...that one goal he has in his last 13 playoff games was a meaningless one in a game 7 that was already decided...last year proved he was not totally useless, but then again, nobody has signed him yet either
"b0s0o1" I agree that Boyes is a bit of an enigma. Flashes of brilliance paired with big stretches of invisibility. Still think in the right situation he can be very usefull. NYI last year showed that he just needs some speed and skill to play with.
Sign Larose and Cleary... better bang for the buck. No sense payin Dougy 2.5 or more to play 3rd paid, too slow and a liability
