Yesterday the Ducks traded defenseman Nathan Saunders and Brett Skinner to the Boston Bruins in exchange for center Mark Mowers.
To Ducks
Mark Mowers 261 NHL GP, 17 G, 44 A, 61 Pts, E
To Boston
Nathan Saunders 36 AHL GP, 1 G, 3 A, 4 Pts, +8
Brett Skinner 127 AHL GP, 10 G, 39 A, 49 Pts, -4
The Ducks are currently stocked with defensive prospects (and potentially the best defensive unit of all time if Niedermayer returns) so there is no real loss in trading Saunders and Skinner.
Mowers appears to be a decent role player, but this is a minor move that will add depth to the 4th line until Samuel Pahlsson returns from his injury. Once that happens Mowers will have his ticket stamped for Portland, with the occasional depth call up.
I don't see this trade having much of an impact on the Ducks long term. Does anyone else have a different take on this?
